Getting IBM i data to import
Typically, you ask a customer to provide IBM i performance data for you to assess in Storage Modeller.
Prerequisites:
Your customer contact must have access to Collection Services data collection on IBM i. A default collection interval of not larger than 5 minutes is recommended. (To verify the existing interval, you run GO PERFORM in the IBM i system, and select option 2.)
The IBM Must Gather Data Collector tool must be installed on the IBM i system. For reference see: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/684977. The version of the Must Gather Data Collector tool must be 06/23/21 (June 23, 2021) or newer.
On IBM i, a customer contact generates an IBM i data collection for the Storage Modeller team as follows:
1. Access the IBM i Main Menu.
2. Enter the following command, which is also visible in the preceding Figure:
GO QMGTOOLS/MG
The Must Gather Data Collector menu is displayed.
3. Enter selection 3 in the command line. This selection is “3. Performance/Misc Collection.”
QPERF Menu is displayed.
4. Enter 15 in the command line. This selection is “15. Collect disk metrics from CS data.” This selection is also visible in the preceding figure. (Notice that the well-known legacy choice of selection 12 is not valid here.)
The Retrieve Disk Perf from CS (RTVDSKCS) choices list is displayed.
5. Enter the following information:
 – Name of the CS Data Library (QPFRDATA in this example)
 – Start date (06/02/2021 in this example)
 – End date (06/09/2021 in this example)

Notes: Typically, you need to give Storage Modeller about one week of data to get optimal assessment of performance.

6. Send the /tmp/diskmetrics <sysnam>.zip output file to the location specified by your contact at IBM Sales or at an IBM business partner.
