Background information
You must consider the impact of Safeguarded Copy backups when you design systems in Storage Modeller. This requirement includes the need to consider the Average Change Rate (in ‘GiB per
copy’ or ‘% per copy’) for your Safeguarded Copy configurations.
Storage Modeller displays error messages when your Safeguarded Copy configuration exceeds the system's capabilities. The error messages explain the source of the issues and the recommended
actions to resolve them.
For IBM Storage Virtualize systems, to check the Safeguarded Copy configuration against the system's capabilities and limits, Storage Modeller makes these assumptions:
▪
That each Safeguarded source volume and its backup volumes (copies) are colocated in the same pool. This models the Safeguarded Copy requirement that the backup location must be a child
pool of the parent pool where the source volumes are located.
▪
That all Safeguarded source volumes within a given pool are of the same type, either Basic volumes, HyperSwap volumes, or volumes in Global Mirror relationships with change volumes.
▪
That the I/O Group of a Safeguarded source or backup volume depends on the location of its pool's internal arrays. If the pool has only external arrays, Storage Modeller assumes that the
Safeguarded volumes are distributed appropriately across all of the system's I/O Groups.
