Description on how to prepare data for z/OS.
There are two basic steps that need to be followed in order to prepare your z/OS data before sending it to IBM:
- Gather diagnostic data.
- IBM z/OS Software Support representative informs you what diagnostic data is required.
- Compress and rename data
- All diagnostic data delivered electronically to IBM must be in a compressed or packed format following the IBM file naming convention.
Use the IBM file naming convention as shown below.
- z/OS clients should use the AMATERSE service aid to compress their data sets [
PACK
parameter] which is part of z/OS. By compressing the data, you improve data transfer time and convert your files into a familiar record length and format. For more information about AMATERSE, please refer to the most current z/OS MVS Diagnosis: Tools and Service Aids documentation. To meet additional security requirements, it is possible to compress and encrypt the diagnostic data using the z/OS Utility z/OS Problem Documentation Upload Utility (PDUU) instead of using AMATERSE.
Note: To prevent problems with special MVS data (SMF data, GDG's etc.), review the information provided in Help section for handling Special Data.
Another option to compress (optionally encrypt) and to transfer data under z/OS is the usage of z/OS utility z/OS Problem Documentation Upload Utility (PDUU) .
- z/OS clients should use the AMATERSE service aid to compress their data sets [
- File naming convention for IBM My Support (CSP) cases: TS<xxxxxxxxx>.yyy.yyy.[TRS]
- Examples for an IBM My Support (CSP) case number: TS012345678.datasetname.TRS (TS<Case ID>.<datasetname>.TRS)
- All diagnostic data delivered electronically to IBM must be in a compressed or packed format following the IBM file naming convention.
- Provide encryption key (if applicable)
- Add the encryption key to the support Case when uploading a file
- Important information:
As ECuRep uploads of problem case data using IBM PDUU to IBM support systems now enforce Encryption-In-Transit (HTTPS or FTPS protocol), the use of cipher key/password option in IBM PDUU is not recommended anymore.
Using cipher key with IBM PDUU will break the automation process handling support data, requires manual intervention and impacts time to resolution !
Notes:
- Proceed to the "Send data" section of this website for more information on sending the files.
- For z/OS FTPS implementation, please refer to information in our Help - FTP section .
- For IBM PDUU implementation, please refer to information in our Send Data - z/OS utility and our Help - z/OS utility help section .
