Prerequisites and co-requisites

The CICS IA plug-in 6.1 system requirements are listed on the CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS System Requirements page.

The CICS IA plug-in 6.1 must be installed in CICS Explorer for Aqua 3.3 or Aqua 3.4 (where Aqua refers to IBM Explorer for z/OS Aqua). CICS Explorer runs on IBM Explorer for z/OS 3.3 or IBM Explorer for z/OS 3.4. Refer to the CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS section of the z/OS Explorer, CICS Explorer, and CICS tools plug-ins release compatibility reference tables.

Installation information

Find further online installation instructions within the technote, entitled "Ordering maintenance for IBM CICS Explorer and CICS Explorer plug-ins".

Prior to installation

It is recommended that you take a backup of the CICS Explorer workspace before upgrading. Refer "Taking a backup of the CICS Explorer workspace" for online instructions on how to do this for the CICS Explorer.

Installing

This is covered in the "Ordering maintenance for IBM CICS Explorer and CICS Explorer plug-ins" technote.  There are two main ways of installing the CICS Explorer fix pack:

  • IBM Installation Manager *Note this is not available currently for Aqua 3.4
  • Eclipse P2 Update Site
IBM Installation Manager
  1. Start Installation Manager and navigate to File -> Preferences -> Repositories.
  2. Click Add Repository and add the URL http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.3/ (Eclipse 2022-03 base) which is the composite update site. Further details are available on the Mainframe Download page.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Ensure the checkbox is selected against it once added.
  5. Click OK in the Preferences dialog to return.
  6. Click the Update option in the Installation Manager wizard and follow the prompts to update CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS plug-in.
Eclipse P2 Update Site
  1. Run the CICS Explorer as usual. If you intend to use the composite update site and you know that it is already available, you can skip to the next step.
    1. To add the composite update site, select Help -> Install New Software... from the top menu.
    2. Click the Available Software Sites hyperlink.
      1. Select the Add... button.
      2. Type in a name for this update site.
      3. Enter the following URL http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.4/ (Eclipse 2024-03 base) or http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.3/ (Eclipse 2022-03 base) into the Location text box.
      4. Click OK.
      5. Ensure the checkbox is selected against it once added.
    3. Click OK in the Preferences dialog to return.
    4. Click Cancel button or exit dialog to return.
  2. Select Help -> Check For Updates
  3. If any are available, follow instructions in the dialogs to install.

Uninstalling if necessary

If you decide that you want to revert back to the old version of the CICS Explorer, you will be able to replace the .zosexplorer folder with the backup that you made prior to upgrading.

  • From the welcome screen, click the Tutorials icon. The icon names are displayed when you hover over them.
