Abstract
This interim fix is released with a limited scope to address Security Release [Log4j 1.x vulnerability, that affects some of the components released with Datacap 9.1.8. This readme file contains information about installation of the interim fix and a known issue.

Installing IBM® Datacap 9.1.8, interim fix 003
A. Steps to upgrade to 9.1.8 Interim fix 003:
- Extract Datacap.zip and then execute the update.bat inside it.
- Once files are copied successfully, installation of interim fix will be initiated. Use the installer UI to complete the installation.
Note:
Ensure removal of any white space in file/folder paths. Paths cannot be accessed if there is space in path names.
B. Steps to install OCRPL Recognition
- Extract OCRPL.zip and run setup.exe.
- Users who have already installed OCRPL Recognition need to upgrade to a new version using OCRPL setup. For more information on installing OCRPL, see IBM Datacap OCRPL Recognition v9.1.8 Download document.
Note:
Datacap High Speed Scanning installer was changed in 9.1.8 interim fix 002, and not included in this interim fix as there are no changes.
Following issues related to Security Release [Log4j 1.x vulnerability] have been addressed in this interim fix.
- SystemTProxy component in IBM® Datacap 9.1.8 base has references to Log4j 1.2.17. Starting with IBM® Datacap 9.1.8, interim fix 003, we have removed these references.
- OCRPL Recognition addon that was introduced in IBM® Datacap 9.1.8 interim fix 001, uses third party (external) package that refers classes of Log4j 1.2.17. Starting with IBM® Datacap 9.1.8, interim fix 003, this has now been upgraded to use v2.1.17, to fix this vulnerability.”
Known issue
- After removal of references to Log4j from SystemTProxy, you may see following error message logged in the SystemT log file.
"Failed to load class "org.slf4j.impl.StaticLoggerBinder""
The above error does not have any impact on the functionality and can be ignored.
Fixed APARs
In Datacap 9.1.8 interim fix 003, only issues related to Security Release [Log4j 1.x vulnerability were addressed. Hence, no APARs were fixed.
