Abstract
- Release of code level R6.1 GA (8.61.0.60)
- Minimum code level for 3948-VED and 3957-VED will be updated to R5.4 PGA2 (8.54.2.17) on January 12th
- Release of code level R6.0 PGA0 (8.60.0.116) - This code level has been released due to a new critical server component not supported by R6.0 GA - 8.60.0.115
- For customers that have 3957-VED, 3948-VED and 3948-VEF active machines with R6.0 GA - 8.60.0.115, it is not necessary to update their code level to R6.0 PGA0 - 8.60.0.116 since the previous version of the affected server component is supported at code level R6.0 GA - 8.60.0.115.
- Code level R6.0 PGA0 - 8.60.0.116 is to be included in new machines shipping from manufacturing after the date of this publication in order to bring support for those new server components.
- Recommended "go to" code level for 3957-VED, 3948-VED and 3948-VEF will be updated to R6.0 GA (8.60.0.115) or R6.0 PGA0 (8.60.0.116) on January 12th. This means that code level R6.0 PGA0 - 8.60.0.116 is compatible with both versions of the affected server component.
- Enough FRU stock of the old server component will be available for customers that have active systems with R6.0 GA - 8.60.0.115 for the foreseeable future in case a replacement is ever needed.
- For more details on this matter please refer to the notification: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7246605

* Existing TS7770 (3957-VED) need to be upgraded to 128GB of memory (FC 3479, 64GB DDR 4 memory upgrade for P9 based VED), whereas TS7770 (3948-VED) offer 128GB memory by default.
** Code level R6.0 PGA0 - 8.60.0.116 has been released to address a compatibility issue on a critical server component that affects 3948-VEF machines shipped after September 29th. For more details refer to: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7246605
Note: For systems running R5.2 or above, support for copy export recovery has been restricted to R4.1 Phase 2 and above. Therefore, volumes created through copy export with older code level can't be restored on a system with R5.2 code level or above. See field information for further details.
Note: TS1150 and TS1160 tape drives only support JC media and above. Therefore, copy export volumes written on JA/JB media cannot be read for copy export recovery with these newer tape drive generations.
Note: As a reminder, End of Development (EoD) support was announced for TS7760, effective 31 December 2023, at which time no more code fixes will be provided.
