Step 2: Installing/Upgrading Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS:
[To complete your first installation of Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS V4.1.2 and above]
- After you have downloaded the package, extract the package contents. The extracted package expands into an /ibm-datasrvrmgr installation directory.
For the remainder of this Tech Note, the installation directory is referred to as <installdirectory>. - If you want a silent installation, change the default values in the <installdirectory>/setup.conf file of your extracted package prior to installing.
Note: To enable Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS features, apply the license activation kit (LAK) included with your order. See Applying IBM Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS V4.1.2 and above license activation kits below for instructions. When finished, continue from step 4. - From the installation directory, run the setup script and follow the prompts. To run in a terminal window, run the following command:
setup -silent. - Log in to Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS.
- From the Navigation bar, click Settings >Manage Connections.
- From the Database Connection pane, select the z/OS connection for which you want to enable the Configuration Manager license, and click Activate License.
- Click the URL in the Db2 Edition column to display the current supported capabilities in the Capabilities column. For example, if you have applied your Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS license to that connection, you will see DSM_ENTERPRISE_Z_CONFIGURE in the Capabilities column.
Note: You can use HTTPS with SSL security exclusively to connect to your Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS server. To do this, set the following values in the <installdirectory>/Config/dswebserver.properties file:- cookie.secureOnly=true
- port=-1
Once setup completes and you have configured SSL Security, your DB2 Configuration Manager for z/OS server is ready for use.
[To upgrade an existing Db2 CMz installation to Version 4.1.2 and above]
Note: Prior to upgrading, it is a good idea to make a backup of your repository database. Having such a backup is vital to successfully regressing back to an older CMz environment, should you need to do so.
- Stop your current Db2 CMz server or service. If your server is running as a Windows service, run <installdirectory>\bin\stopservice. Otherwise, run <installdirectory>/bin/stop.sh.
- Verify that the server is stopped, by running <installdirectory>/bin/status.
- Extract the package for Db2 CMz V4.1.2 and above that you downloaded previously into your install directory. Allow the files to be overwritten and replaced.
- From the installation directory, run the setup script and follow the prompts, or do a silent install from a terminal window.
To do a silent install, review and modify <installdirectory>/setup.conf, as required, and then run the following command: setup -silent. - Verify that the server is started, by running <installdirectory>/bin/status. The message is shown as follows:
dsserver_home: /data/DSMbuild/ibm-datasrvrmgr
port: 11080
https.port: 11081
status.port: 11082
SERVER STATUS: ACTIVE
Note: If you keep historical data from Db2 CMz V4.1.2 in the browser, you will need to clear the browser cache after you upgrade successfully from Db2 CMz V4.1.2 to Db2 CMz V4.1.3. You can find instructions on how to clear the cache for your specific browser at one of the following sites: - Ensure that your repository database is up to date.
- If your repository database resides on a LUW platform, navigate to the /samples/DB2LUW folder of your CMz installation folder, and locate and run validate.sql. This will tell you if any of your repository tables are missing.
- If your repository database resides on a z/OS system, you will need to perform additional steps to make it compatible with your new CMz environment.
For repository migration steps, refer to the IBM Knowledge Center topic, Upgrading an existing Db2 for z/OS repository database
Now the upgrade is complete and your server is ready for use.
Step 3 : Applying Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS License Activation Kit (LAK):
[Apply a license activation kit (LAK) to enable enhanced configuration features]
Note: If you are performing an upgrade and have already applied the CMz LAK to your previous version of CMz, you can skip this step.
- Download the entitled license activation kit package from IBM Software Shopz as described in Step 1.
Use ibm-db2configmgr-4.1.X-license-activation-kit-<platform>. The plinux-le and zlinux
platforms share the same LAK as linux-x86_64. - Stop the Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS server or service.
If Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS is running as a Windows service, run <installdirectory>\bin\stopservice. Otherwise, run <installdirectory>/bin/stop.sh. - Verify that the server is stopped by running <installdirectory>/bin/status.
- Apply the license activation kit:
- Extract each entitled LAK into your install directory.
- Allow files to be overwritten and replaced.
For example: the Config, dscomponents, and license folders in the LAK should be extracted to the Config, dscomponents and license folders in your installation directory.
- From the installation directory, run the start script to start the Db2 Configuration Manager server or service.
If the Configuration Manager is running as a Windows service, run <installdirectory>\bin\startservice. Otherwise, run <installdirectory>/bin/start.sh..
Your Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS V4.1.2 and above license activation kits have been applied.
Step 4 : Enabling IBM Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS features:
Once you have installed the package and applied the LAK, you can enable Db2 CMz features for your Db2 for z/OS connections.
[To enable Db2 CMz features]
- Log in to Db2 CMz.
- From the Navigation bar, click Settings >Manage Connections.
- From the Database Connection pane, create a new z/OS connection, or select the z/OS connection for which you want to enable the CMz license, and click Activate License.
- From the Edition column, click the corresponding URL to display the current supported capabilities in the Capabilities column. For example, if you have applied your Db2 CMz license to that connection, you will see DSM_ENTERPRISE_Z_CONFIGURE in the Capabilities column.
Step 5 : Creating or upgrading a repository database for historical data collection
CMz requires a repository database for the storage of historical data. Follow the steps in the IBM Data Server Manager Knowledge Center to add or upgrade a repository database.
Step 6 (Optional) : Reverting back to a previous IBM Db2 Configuration Manager for z/OS installation, after upgrading
When you upgrade your current CMz environment, the running of the setup script creates a sub-folder within your installation folder, titled dsm_bak_v21x, that is populated with a backup of your current CMz installation.
Note: The naming of this file is dictated by the version of IBM Data Server Manager (DSM) that corresponds to your installed version of CMz, prior to upgrading (e.g., CMz 4.1.2 and DSM 2.1.4), as this mechanism is used by all of the DSM-based management consoles.
In the event that you want to revert back to your original DSM installation, after upgrading, you can use the contents of this folder to re-create your previous DSM environment.
Note: Be advised that, if you have already upgraded your repository database for use with your upgraded DSM version, there are several changes to tables that cannot be reverted. This process will only work using a clean backup of your previous DSM repository database.
To revert back to a previous DSM installation:
- Install a new instance of the CMz version to which you want to revert back.
- From the installation folder of your upgraded CMz instance, locate and open your \dsm_bak_v21x sub-folder.
- Copy the contents of the \dsm_bak_v21x sub-folder to the corresponding locations within your newly created CMz installation.
- If you have not already done so, start your newly regressed version of the CMz application.
- Log in through the web console and examine your product setup. You will find that your settings, such as the Java Heap Size and System port number, have been reverted to their previous values.
- Go to Settings > Product Setup and restore the connection to your previous CMz repository database, or to a restored backup of that database.
You will find all the information in the repository database is still here.
