Question & Answer
Where do you download the GA (base release) image for IBM compilers?
This technote describes the process of downloading the GA images for IBM XL C/C++, IBM XL Fortran, IBM COBOL and IBM PL/I compilers.
In order to download the GA image for the compiler product, you need to know if the compiler product was ordered as a software product via Passport Advantage (PA) or was ordered with your IBM Hardware package via the Advanced Administrative System (AAS) ordering channel.
If you know the ordering channel used to purchase the compiler simply register and login to the site that corresponds to your ordering channel. The GA image for the compiler can then be downloaded through the following website:
- If the compiler product was purchased using the Passport Advantage (PA) ordering channel, follow the instructions in technote 1622147 "How to download software from Passport Advantage Online website".
- If the compiler product was purchased using the AAS ordering channel, the software can be downloaded using the Entitled Software Support (ESS) Web site. Follow the instructions in technote 1671365 "How to download software from ESS website".
If you do not know the ordering channel used to purchase the compiler you can determine it yourself by attempting to enroll/register on both PA and AAS/ESS websites using your IBM Customer Number (ICN).
An ICN is a unique number assigned by IBM on a per-customer basis which will only work for one of the ordering channels.
If you are able to register as an entitled user and confirmed the access to GA image on one of these websites, you do not need to proceed with enrollment/registration for the other ordering channel.
If you do not know your ICN, it can be determined from the product's original purchase order. If you cannot find this information, please contact your regional IBM Sales representative or IBM Business Partner who originally sold the compiler to you.
Please note that the compiler products do not use or require any kind of license keys and may be used as soon as they are installed without activation or enablement.
