7.2 SP3,  7.1 SP12

Important note for Google Chrome users

Because of changes with how certificates are handled with the latest Chrome browsers, we have added a link to the logon panel when using the Chrome browser.  This link gives information that will help the user navigate the steps needed to configure a certificate for this browser.

With releases of Google Chrome in 2015 (44 and later) an issue needs to be addressed for security and ability to successfully run IBM Navigator for i.  The IBM self-signed certificate needs to be added manually by the user into the Certificate Authority for Chrome once per client system.  This will avoid errors later on with the certificate authority while using IBM Navigator for i.  The most notable problem will be the Chrome grey sad face:  image-20200117155040-1.  The steps to add the IBM self-signed certificate are provided on a red link of the log on screen and also provided on this page: Google Chrome

In these service packs, the following changes are included:

Usability & enhancements:

  • IFS - Double click a folder in Integrated File System can open it in
       another tab

  • Message Monitor improvements

                     1.  Remove dependence of CIM server for message monitor

                     2. Support message monitor auto restart

                     3. Support that allows modifying a started message monitor

Issues fixed:

  1. Attempts to send or send/install a PTF group could result in "The size of the PTFs are too big" message being logged for large PTF groups.  The size limitation listed is not valid for V7R2 systems. The size limitation for V7R2 systems is from 48 M to 1000000 M.
  2. Application Administration items will now be shown as expected within IBM Navigator for i.
  3. When using Network-> Servers-> TCP/IP servers and selecting DHCP Monitor of DHCP Server, the subnet information will now be shown in the DHCP Monitor.

Liberty application server :

Move from LWI to the Liberty profile: the strategic web application profile on the IBM i

Application server changed from LWI to Liberty.

LWI is the integrated application server for IBM i that is currently in maintenance mode, with no enhancements planned.

The IBM WebSphere Liberty profile is the dynamic application server runtime environment that is now being used for IBM Navigator for i.  This new Liberty-based server provides required security handling.

The Log files have moved:

The directory structure for Liberty has changed significantly from the previous directory structure when we were running in LWI:

Log files are now at:    \qibm\UserData\OS\AdminInst\admin2\wlp\usr\servers\admin2\logs

Key logs files are messages.log and console.log

These may be requested for PMRs or debugging purposes.

The application directory is located at: \qibm\ProdData\OS400\Navigator\appdata\iWebNav.eba\com.ibm.i5os.webnav.systeminavigator_1.0.0.jar

Server restart:

As of this point in time, it is taking longer for the HTTP Admin servers to finish their startup processing.  Because of this, we have added an informational message that may appear if the user tries to logon to the console before this startup processing has finished.   This message looks like this:

image-20200117155101-2

Users of Navigator should wait around 5 minutes after entering the command to restart the HTTP admin servers.  That's just a suggestion, not an exact number.

6.1 SP16

  1. Performance tools on the Web enhancements
  2. IBM Navigator for i was showing the PTF status by taking the message subtext using the primary language instead of depending on the language setting of the browser. This has been fixed so the correct part of the message text is picked up depending on the Encoding Schema setting (position varies between SBCS and DBCS).
  3. All the functions for 'Enterprise Identity Mapping' are now available (where they were previously hidden).
