Abstract
Complete the following steps to install the RefreshPack update Installer for PCOMM V14.0.

Pre-requisite:
- The base version IBM personal Communications V14.0.x.0 full Installer must be installed in the system prior to the installation of higher version of Refresh Pack update installer.
- The user must be Administrator to perform the Upgrade and Rollback for the base version is less than 14.0.5.0.
NOTE: From 14.0.5.0 onwards, the Auto-upgrade feature allows Windows users who are not part of “Administrator” group (Standard User). A Standard User can upgrade to latest version with a base version of 14.0.5.0 or higher only. For more information refer Auto-Upgrade for Standard Users
Steps to install:
- Extract the RefreshPack zip file to get RefreshPack update installer, IBM Personal Communications RPx.msi and configuration file MPCOMM.CNF, version 14.0.x.0 which is higher than installed base version.
- Double click IBM Personal Communications RPx.msi. A message "Welcome to Installshield wizard for IBM Personal Communications RPx" is displayed.
- Click Next to go to the next panel.
- Click Next to install in Ready to Install the program panel.
- Click Install and then click Finish.
Steps to install using Managed PCOMM:
1. After the base version is installed, unzip the RefreshPack zip file to copy the IBM Personal Communications RPx.msi and MPCOMM.CNF to the
WebServerURL location provided.
NOTE: Please refer to the section Web Server Details under the topic, HACP Server Details in the Quick Beginnings book.
2. From the PCOMM client, invoke the Start or Configure Sessions - Online.
The user gets a notification about the latest available PCOMM version. To upgrade, refer to the Auto-Update of IBM Personal Communications (PCOMM).
3. Click Update.
The application is closed and the installer is downloaded to install the RefreshPack.
4. From 14.0.5.0 onwards, Upgrade and Rollback can be performed from “Package” menu from Session manager (Online/Offline).

NOTE: In the below example, the scenario of the upgradation of RefreshPack update installer of version 14.0.1.0 on a base version of version 14.0.0.0 is explained.
- The IBM Personal Communications RPs are Cumulative.
- Supports all the languages as the Base package (CHS, CHT, KOR, JAP etc.).
- Adds all the files required for the RefreshPack, which includes all APARs, Bug fixes, and enhancements related to RefreshPack Update Installer.
- When a user installs IBM Personal Communications 14.0.x, the IBM Personal Communications' Base version installation is upgraded to IBM Personal Communications 14.0.x, which is RPx.
- The RefreshPack takes the backup of the base package files into a newly created folder BackupBase under the installation directory and restores them back to RPx.
- The RefreshPack overwrites a registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Personal Communications\CurrentVersion\VersionNumber with the RefreshPack version. The registry key is replaced back to the Base version after the uninstallation.
- The new registry key is also added for the restricting coexistence under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Personal Communications\CurrentVersion\VersionNumber Value:- Fixpack_Version = 14.0.x.0, and after uninstallation, the key is removed.
- Uninstallation of 14.0.x.0 is also possible without affecting the IBM Personal Communications Base version.
- A new ARP Entry 'IBM Personal Communications 14.0.x' is added to the control panel in addition to IBM Personal Communications Base version and is removed after the uninstallation.
