IBM© Aspera® Orchestrator

IBM© Aspera® Orchestrator provides complete digital workflow orchestration for the collection, processing, and distribution of large volumes of file-based digital assets. Built on the Fast, Adaptive, Secure Protocol (FASP©) transfer technology, this web-based application (with its SDK platform) simplifies the design and build of workflows. Orchestrator's highly scalable, predictable, streamlined file processing workflows connect business units and external partners by using existing IT infrastructure. An extensive library of plug-ins is available to support many popular workflow applications.

Capsules

Capsules are Orchestrator patches that are applied to added features to fix bugs without upgrading Orchestrator. Once imported, capsules can be viewed, archived to the archive directory, or deleted from the server.

In an HA environment, there are multiple engines serving the Orchestrator server. Each engine can have its own capsules. In the following picture, the HA Capsules list displays one capsule from each engine instance: Engine_0 and Engine_1.

NOTE: After a capsule is imported or ingested, that capsule will be visible in the list of capsules under Engine > Capsules.  When the capsule file name starts with the character '_', this capsule is not visible under Engine > Capsules. These capsules are special capsules that are executed only once after ingestion. You can find them in the list of archived capsules after import. For an HA system, these special capsules have to be ingested on every instance of the cluster.

HA Notes

Plug-ins

Plug-ins are core components for IBM© Aspera® Orchestrator. Normally are not platform or version dependent (unless explicitly stated in the readme file) and can be imported (upgraded or installed) from the IBM© Aspera® Orchestrator UI.

If that plug-in was previously enabled, all components and settings for that plug-in (code, version, functionality) are overwritten by the new instance of the plug-in being imported.

If no prior instance of the plug-in is found in the repository, which is usually the case with newly developed plug-ins, the plug-in being imported creates a new entry in the plug-in manager.

  1. On the plug-in Manager page ('Engine > Plugins'), click Import plug-in.
    The Upload an Action plug-in File for Import dialog appears.
  2. Click Choose File and select a plug-in file, then click Open.
    The name of the plug-in appears next to the Choose File button.
  3. Click Import to load the plug-in.
    The plug-in Manager page displays a status message regarding the import process (a success message if the import completes, and an error message if the import is unsuccessful).
