Importing metadata into the metadata repository

You import metadata when you want to add metadata into the metadata repository for use in projects. Imported metadata is viewable by all suite users and can be used by all suite components.

About this task

Before you can import metadata, you must know how to connect to the data source. The metadata is obtained from the data source. You can use Source Configuration to connect to the data source. After you create the connection, you can use the connection to import metadata into the metadata repository. You import metadata only if the data sources that you want to use in your mapping specification are not yet in the metadata repository.

You must have the role of FastTrack Common Metadata Administrator in order to create, delete, or update any physical data, such as hosts, databases, schemas, tables and columns, and to import metadata and create a new connection.

Procedure

  1. Click Metadata > Source Configuration on the Workspace Navigator.
Access the Metadata workspace to work with metadata.
  2. Select the connection to the metadata and provide the database access ID and password that is required to access the data source.
  3. Expand the hierarchical tree to view the metadata that you want to import. You can import schemas or tables.
