Migrating Decision Server Insights

Installation Manager is used to install Decision Server Insights V8.10.new. To migrate V8.8.1 or V8.9.x to V8.10.new you must install Decision Server Insights in a different installation directory, and then run a script to migrate your existing servers. An update of V8.10.x to a recent fix pack or to V8.10.new can be done in-place, both online and offline. An update of V8.10.x to V8.10.new can also be done as a side-by-side offline migration.

Deprecated feature:

Deprecation icon Decision Server Insights is deprecated in V8.10.5.1. See Deprecated features for migration details.

Note: Migration refers to the conversion of data in the server database and solution projects from the format that is used by a previous version to the format used by the new version. In addition, the term migration is used to refer to a change in server configuration from one version to another.

Migration to V8.10.new is supported for V8.9.x and V8.8.1. Migration from V8.9.x or V8.8.1 must be done when a Decision Server Insights cluster is stopped, and is not available for immediate use. Migration must be done side-by-side.

In-place
The new version is installed on top of the previous version.
Side-by-side
The new version is installed in a different installation directory as the previous version, and a script is used to migrate the existing servers. The server configuration migration is needed to benefit from improvements in the new version.
Online
A cluster remains up and running, and available for immediate use.
Offline
A cluster must be stopped, and is not available for immediate use.

If you do have a production server, you must install the new version of Insight Server before you deploy solutions from the new Insight Designer. If you deploy a solution from the new version before your production server is at V8.10.new, a solution might rely on features that are not available in the previous version. To avoid this situation, continue to use the previous version of Insight Designer until you are satisfied that the new production server is stable. When you are ready to deploy a new version of your solutions, install the new development environment, rebuild the solution, and then deploy.

Note:

The support for IBM® WebSphere® MQ 7.5 is removed in V8.10.0. Because Decision Server Insights cluster must be shut down to upgrade WebSphere MQ, you might want to plan an offline update of Decision Server Insights at the same time to take advantage of this system shutdown. For more information, see MQ 9.0 compatibility with previous versions.

The database records generated by Decision Server Insights V8.10.0 are not compatible with previous versions. After you migrate to V8.10.0, you cannot roll back the migration and keep the persisted data.

The following topics take you through the steps to migrate a production server and deploy the solutions that you developed in a previous version.
