About the Software Instance Comparison report

When you generate the Software Instance Comparison report, z/OSMF compares the SYSMOD content of the first software instance you select to the second software instance you select, and identifies the SYSMODs in the second software instance that are not in the first software instance.

Important: The results displayed in the report represent a unidirectional comparison. To view the results of a bidirectional comparison, create two separate reports and reverse the software instances you select first and second.

Review the SYSMODs identified and, if necessary, use SMP/E to apply the SYSMODs to the corresponding target zones in the first software instance. Consider applying the SYSMOD if it resolves an error, makes the software instances functionally equivalent, or delivers or modifies a function you want to use.

To generate this report, complete the steps provided in help topic Creating the Software Instance Comparison report. The information provided in this report is similar to the information that is retrieved when you issue the SMP/E REPORT SYSMODS command.

Fields in the Software Instance Comparison report
