Upgrading by installing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Version 8.5.5 on a new server (Scenario 1)
The following checklist is a high-level road map of tasks you need to complete in order to upgrade to install and automatically configure WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 for Control Desk 7.6.
Also note that any custom configuration you performed on the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7 server for Control Desk 7.5.x must be performed again for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5.
In this scenario, you use the Control Desk version 7.6 installation program to install WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 and then use the Control Desk version 7.6 configuration program to automatically configure it. None of the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7 configuration information from your existing Control Desk version 7.5.x deployment is reused. You are establishing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 in your environment in the same manner you would for a new Control Desk version 7.6 installation. WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 must be installed on a system that is different from the server hosting WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7 for your Control Desk version 7.5.x deployment.
The benefit of using this upgrade scenario is that it provides automated installation and configuration of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 while maintaining the existing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7 configuration where Control Desk 7.5.x was deployed. During the upgrade process, the database is upgraded from version 7.5.x to version 7.6. The upgraded database cannot continue to be used by Control Desk version 7.5.x. If you want to retain the Control Desk version 7.5.x environment, the Control Desk version 7.6 upgrade must be performed on a separate instance of the Control Desk version 7.5.x database.
The upgrade process involves performing a new installation of Control Desk version 7.6 and then configuring it to use the Control Desk version 7.5.x database. The database is upgraded during the configuration process. You do not perform the upgrade from the Control Desk version 7.5.x administrative workstation. Platforms supported for Control Desk version 7.5.x administrative workstations are not supported in Control Desk version 7.6.
