Configuring IBM Tivoli Monitoring to forward situation events

This topic describes how to forward situation events to IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus.

Before you begin

You need to install the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and TBSM.

Use IBM Tivoli Monitoring version 6 release 2.1 for this event integration. You can use IBM Tivoli Monitoring version 6.2 with fix pack 1 and interim fix 1 or higher to complete this task successfully, but there is no EIF Tab in version 6.2.0 to set the situation status value. As a result, the events colors may not map correctly in IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus.

About this task

IBM Tivoli Monitoring can forward situation events to the Tivoli® Event Integration facility probe as if it is a Tivoli Enterprise Console server.

The Tivoli EIF Probe filters the events and forwards the events to the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus ObjectServer monitored by TBSM. To configure the IBM® Tivoli Monitoring to forward events to TBSM:

When the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is reconfigured, select the check box to enable Tivoli Event Integration facility:

Procedure

Open the Manage Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Services application.
Right-click on the service Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server and select Reconfigure from the menu.
On the TEMS configuration options window, enable the TEC Event Integration Facility check box.
Click OK twice and the TEC Server: Location and Port Number window opens.
In the TEC Server Location field, enter the host name where the EIF Probe was installed.
In the TEC port number field, enter the port number of the EIF Probe. The default port number is: 5530.
Click OK to close the window.
Restart the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server.
