IBM Spectrum Protect server updates
New features and other changes are available in the IBM Spectrum Protect™ Version 8.1 server.
- Meet IBM Spectrum Protect
IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 is the next generation of IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager. This new release represents more than a name change in the user interface and documentation. It is an evolution to a higher level of data protection that is designed to meet the complex demands of today's world. - Secure communications by using the TLS 1.2 protocol
IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 secures communications for servers, clients, and storage agents by enabling the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 protocol. TLS 1.2 provides a higher level of security than previous TLS levels. - Convert a tape storage pool to a container storage pool
With IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1, you can convert a storage pool that uses a tape device class to a directory-container or cloud-container storage pool. - Software upgrade for the server database manager
IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 is installed with V11.1 of the IBM DB2® database software. The DB2 technology provides management functions for the server database. The previous IBM Spectrum Protect server release was packaged with a DB2 V10.5 database. - REGISTER NODE command no longer creates an administrative user ID by default
Beginning with IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1, the REGISTER NODE command does not automatically create an administrative user ID that matches the node name. This product update is designed to optimize user authentication to a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server. - Optimize user authentication to an Active Directory database
IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 optimizes the process of authenticating users to an Active Directory database on a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server. - Increased flexibility for protecting and reclaiming tape volumes in container-copy storage pools
With IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1, you can reclaim tape volumes in a container-copy storage pool without running a protection operation. Similarly, you can protect a container-copy storage pool without running a reclamation operation. - Supported operating systems
With IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1, you can install the server on an IBM AIX®, Linux on System z®, Linux x86_64, or a Microsoft Windows operating system. To take advantage of new product features, install IBM Spectrum Protect V8.1 on one of the supported operating systems. - Monitor the system without using SNMP
With IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1, the simple network management protocol (SNMP) is no longer available for communications with an SNMP Distributed Protocol Interface (DPI) subagent. You cannot configure the SNMP heartbeat monitor or log events to an SNMP event receiver.
