Working in the modeling workbench
The modeling workbench includes the cube view (or exploration) editor and set editor.
Using the view
The cube view offers flexible options to view, analyze, and organize data.
- A guided and intuitive experience
For example, the view guides you to the drop zone when you drag a dimension to a different location in the grid.
You can use the icons in the view
to:- See the cube in the data tree.
- Expand or collapse the overview.
- See benched dimensions.
- Select hierarchy, iconography, context information, and section headers to customize your view.
Each dimension tile in the view has a menu icon next to it from which you can:- Open the set editor.
- Remove, replace, or add related hierarchy.
- Move the dimension to the bench.
- Manually move the dimension right or left, or to a row, column, or context.
- Limit the number of sets for a dimension (Customize sets).

Depending on the number of dimensions or the size of the view, all dimensions might not display.
To see dimensions that are hidden from the view, click the More dimensions menu in the Context, Row, or Column area.

From the More dimensions menu, you can drag dimensions to the Context, Row, or Column area and vice versa. You can also move dimensions that appear within the More dimensions menu.
You can click the menu next to the member's name to open the set editor, move the dimension to the bench, see move options, and more.

With the Set menu, you can change the set from within the set editor.

- MDX panel
The MDX editor allows you to make changes to the MXD expressions in a view.
To access the MDX editor, click the Edit MDX icon
.The following features are available in the MDX editor:- Autocomplete: provides suggestions on dimension names, functions, and other TM1 objects while you are typing.
- Syntax coloring: shows different portions of the MDX statement in different colors for increased readability. For example, keywords are written in red, and tuples are written in blue.
- Undo: allows you to undo the last change.
- Redo: allows you to redo the last change.
- Find and replace: clicking ctrl+f open a dialogs that allows you to search for specific text in the MDX, and replace it.
- Indenting: the MDX editor now automatically formats the MDX script, indenting each line. When
you make changes in the view, the MDX editor updates with the correct formatting. You can manually
indent the lines in the script by clicking Indent script
in the MDX
editor toolbar. -
Commit applies your MDX edits to the view. When you click Commit, a text box appears telling you if the changes were made successfully.
-
Synchronize replaces the MDX in the editor with the one represented in the view. After you click Synchronize, clickOK to synchronize.
Note: When you make edits in a view, the MDX editor automatically synchronizes to match these changes. However, when you make edits in the MDX editor, the view does not automatically synchronize to match these changes. You have to manually select where you want your edits to apply using the Commit
and
Synchronize
buttons in the MDX editor toolbar.

- The Settings menu
The Settings menu offers options to customize the display for your set.
Enable Compact header under the General section to reduce the size of the set editor header and see more members.
You can also remove icons from all members for a simplified display with the Icons property under General.

- Multi-select activity display
When you select multiple members in Available members or Current set, an activity bar displays with your selection information and available options.

- Improved features
The Search and Filter features in the new set editor are more intuitive and improved for usability. The filter feature allows you to filter a set by one or more attributes to choose the available members that appear in the set. The search feature lets you search for members in the set editor. You can use both features to include members in a set that match specific criteria.

The new experience set editor also offers the ability to delete sets from within the set editor.
