Restoring zone data

If you backed up data using IBM® Cloud Sync, you can restore previous versions of a zone.

Before you begin

  • Make sure that you have permissions to manage zones.
  • Make sure that the external network is connected and that the zone is published to the network.

About this task

When you restore zone data, you restore changes made to the following at a point in time:

  • Primary zone data, including all records that existed at the time. If a record did not exist at the time you are restoring to, the record is deleted.
  • Filter Chain configurations that are attached to the records in the zones.
  • Data feeds that are connected to records through monitoring jobs.

As part of restoring zone data, you can preview the changes before you commit to restoring the data. New or updated data is displayed in green text. Deleted data is shown in red. Data that was not impacted by the activity is shown in gray.

Attention: If you restore an activity that has subsequent changes, those changes are deleted and replaced with the restored activity. If a record did not exist at the time you restored the data to, the record is deleted. Similarly, if a record existed at that time but was deleted subsequent to the restoration, the records are recreated.

You cannot restore zone data for the following:

  • Zones that were unpublished from a backup network
  • Secondary zones

Procedure

  1. Click DNS > Zones.
  2. Locate the zone that you want to restore items for.
To locate a zone, you can use the filter options to narrow the zone list by the zone name, the tag, the type of zone, or the type of network.
  3. Click the zone name.
  4. Click the Activity log tab.
  5. Locate the activity that you want to restore. You can search for an item or use the filter options to narrow the list of activities.

Only zones that are backed up have this option available.
The Preview zone data page opens showing the changes.
  7. Review the data to make sure that you want to remove the changes that are displayed.
  8. If you have multiple networks connected, from the Back up network drop-down list, select the network to restore the changes to.
  9. Click Restore zone data.
