Accessing a trial and evaluating MoRE

To access a trial version of IBM® Modernized Runtime Extension for Java™ (MoRE), complete the MoRE trial registration form.

To complete the MoRE trial registration form, see the Modernized Runtime Extension (MoRE) Trial page.

You can access a trial version of Modernized Runtime Extension for Java to evaluate how MoRE supports your environment and applications. In the trial version of MoRE, you can only use local repositories to install MoRE. For more information about local repositories, see Configuring local product repositories for Modernized Runtime Extension for Java.

Evaluate MoRE operations

You can evaluate how MoRE installs and operates in your environment by using sample applications. You can download and deploy the modResort sample application file or the Spring Petclinic sample application file.

To evaluate how MoRE operates in your environment, complete the following steps.

  1. Install MoRE on your environment. For more information, see Installing MoRE with Installation Manager.
  2. Create a WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment cell profile. For more information, see Creating cell profiles.
  3. Create and start a managed Liberty server. For more information, see Creating managed Liberty servers.
  4. Deploy the sample Jakarta EE 10 application. For more information, see Deploying applications to managed Liberty targets.

After you deploy your application, make sure that the server is running and the application is available on a browser.

You have successfully validated MoRE operations in your own environment.

Evaluate MoRE application modernization

You can evaluate how MoRE supports modernization of your applications. You can use IBM Application Modernization Accelerator to identify and migrate a candidate application to MoRE.

To evaluate how MoRE supports modernization of your applications, complete the following steps.

  1. Start an IBM Application Modernization Accelerator trial. To access a trial version of IBM Application Modernization Accelerator, see Application Modernization Accelerator Trial.
  2. Use Application Modernization Accelerator to identify and modernize an application to run on Liberty administered from WebSphere (MoRE). For more information, see the Application Modernization Accelerator documentation and the IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools documentation.
  3. Install MoRE on your environment. For more information, see Installing MoRE with Installation Manager.
  4. Create a WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment cell profile. For more information, see Creating cell profiles.
  5. Create and start a managed Liberty server. For more information, see Creating managed Liberty servers.
  6. Deploy your modernized application. For more information, see Deploying applications to managed Liberty targets.

After you deploy your application, make sure that the server is running and the application is available on a browser.

You have successfully validated how MoRE supports modernization of your applications.

For more information about getting started with MoRE, see the Introduction for IBM Modernized Runtime Extension for Java lab GitHub page.
