IBM Maximo Spatial Asset Management, Version 7.6

Configuration of labels for automatic location of map features

When assets, locations, work orders, service requests, or service addresses are automatically located on a map, a symbol and a label identify the record. You can configure the text, position, and system properties of the labels to enhance the usability of the Auto-Locate function.

Label text

Labels identify the names of assets, locations, work orders, service requests, and service addresses that are automatically located on a map. You define the composition of the text by using the Auto Locate tab in the Map Manager application. The text is the combination of a prefix value and a suffix value that forms the full label for map features.

For example, for a work order label, the prefix value is WO and the suffix value is WONUM. When the work order 1234 is automatically located on a map, the label WO1234 is shown.

Label placement

When multiple labels are associated with a feature on a map, overcrowding can reduce the usability of the information. Before you use the Auto-Locate function, you can configure the placement of the label in positions around the corresponding symbol. You configure the position of the label by using the Auto Locate tab in the Map Manager application. You can specify one of the following positions:
  • Upper Right (UR)
  • Middle Right (MR)
  • Lower Right (LR)
  • Upper Left (UL)
  • Middle Left (ML)
  • Lower Left (LL)

Label system properties

To ensure legibility of labels, you can define the properties of the label, such as the character length, font, and style. You configure these properties in the System Properties application.

The following table describes the label properties.
