You use access permits to manage access to defined areas where work is scheduled to be done.

Access permits
An access permit is a class of permit that is designed to manage access to defined areas where work is carried out. Access permits can be used to manage the access of both internal employees and external visitors or contractors.
Access permit status values
Access permits have a status, such as active or suspended. Access permit application processes often do different actions on records according to their status values.
Creating access permits
An access permit defines the hazards and isolations that are associated with work activities. When you create access permits, you provide the details with which the permit is associated. You ensure that access permits are ready to be issued.
Issuing and accepting access permits
To ensure that work is carried out safely, qualified personnel must be authorized to issue and accept access permits. You also select qualified personnel to do the tasks that are associated with access permits.
Suspending access permits
You can suspend individual, or multiple access permits as your requirements change. For example, you can suspend an access permit for an inspector in between inspections. When an emergency arises that requires a quick response at a work site, you can suspend all active access permits with a single action. This action eliminates the need to change the status of individual access permits, saving time, and potentially reducing the impact of hazardous conditions. When you suspend access permits, you can notify personnel that work activities for those access permits are suspended.
Closing access permits
When all of the work activities are complete, and the plant is returned to a safe working condition, you can cancel or suspend active access permits.
