Creating software contracts

To manage software contracts, create software contract records and complete the approval process for the contract. After a contract is approved, you can create payment schedules and associate the contract with the appropriate licenses, assets, and users.

About this task

You create software contract records after the negotiations for the contract are complete and you are ready to record the details of the final contract. You can create software contract records in more than one application:
  • Software Contracts application – Click New Software Contract on the toolbar.
  • Master Contracts application – Select the Create Associated Contract action.
  • Purchase Orders application – Select the Create Contract action.
You can also use the Duplicate software contract action to create a copy of an existing software contract, for example if you have negotiated similar contracts with more than one vendor. After you duplicate a contract you can then modify it as needed.

When you use a standard software contract, the system requires a purchase order, but does not specify a maximum amount that you can spend.
