Replace the SCSI media-device cables in a model 285,520, 550Q and 720

You might need to replace the SCSI media-device cables as a part of the servicing the media device or as a part of another service action. Use the procedure in this section to accomplish this task.

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks described in Before you begin.
  2. If you are removing the media device as part of another procedure, continue to the next step. If you are removing the device because of a system failure, refer to Identify a failing part.
  3. Remove the media enclosure. For instructions, see Remove the media-device enclosure from models 285, 52x, 55x, and 720.
  4. Identify the cable you want to remove.
  5. Unplug the cable from its connectors on the SCSI media device and on the media-device enclosure or audio card. If you are removing an audio-card cable, note how the cable is routed through the system so that you can replace it correctly.
  6. Remove the cable from the media-device enclosure or the system.
  7. Plug the replacement cable into the appropriate connectors on the SCSI media device and on the media-device enclosure or audio card. If you are replacing the audio-card cable, ensure that the cable is routed through the system correctly.
  8. Replace the media enclosure. For instructions, see Replace the media-device enclosure in models 285, 52x, 55x, and 720.
  9. If you replaced the media device cable as part of another procedure, return to that procedure now. If you replaced the device cable because of a system failure, verify that the new resource is functional. See Verify the installed part.
