Remove the media-device enclosure from models 285, 52x, 55x, and 720

You might need to remove a media-device enclosure to service the media devices or perform other service actions. Use the instructions in this section to accomplish this task.

The following procedure describes the removal of the media-device enclosure .

To remove the media-device enclosure, do the following:

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks described in Before you begin.
  2. If you are removing the media-device enclosure as part of another procedure, continue to the next step. If you are removing the enclosure because of a system failure, refer to Identify a failing part.
  3. Stop the system or logical partition.
  4. Remove the front cover. For instructions, see Remove the front cover from the model 285, 52x, 55x, OpenPower 720, or the 0595 expansion unit.

Disconnect any other cables that are connected to the media device enclosure.
  7. If you are removing the media-device enclosure as part of another procedure, return to that procedure now. If you are removing a failing enclosure to replace it with a new one, ensure that you have removed all devices and needed parts from the failing unit and place them in the new unit.
  8. To replace the media-device enclosure in the system unit, see Replace the media-device enclosure in models 285, 52x, 55x, and 720.
