Welcome to the MAXIMO UPGRADE TIPS blog.
First of all I'd like to present myself. My name is Jean Carlos Ribeiro Gonçalves. I am brazilian and started to work, as many brazilian did in my generation,
when I had about 14 years old. I had different job experiences like seller, office-boy, interviewer for opinion surveys,
SOLDIER (Yes, I was part of the Brazilian Army), and so on :D
Finally, 1 year before completing my Computer Science graduation in the Federal University of Parana (Brazil), I had my first experience in this area, working for Continuum Entertainment,
a brazillian game development company, as a game developer. Two years later, I had an experience in the support area. But since 2006, I've been working with Software Testing (Quality Assurance).
I started to work for IBM in 2008 as a Software Test Engineer (QA), since then, as part of a QA team that performs testing of the upgrade process of
major versions of IBM Maximo Asset Management, Industry Solutions and some add-ons. The office where the majority of this team works today is located in
the IBM Brazil Software Lab in São Paulo/Brazil, but since 2010, I became myself a full home-office worker and, today, I am living in the city of Curitiba/Brazil,
located about 500km of São Paulo. This was the city where I was born and lived the most part of my life, so, I'd say that I came home.
With my experience of testing the upgrade process of major versions of IBM Maximo Asset Management (with Industry Solutions and some add-ons) I decided to help the
developer/tester community or any other who are interested in performing this kind of upgrade process, mainly for testing purpose, by sharing some tips.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO SAY THAT THE POSTINGS ON THIS SITE ARE MY OWN AND DO NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENT IBM'S POSITION, STRATEGIES OR OPINIONS.
This so called "upgrade process" that I am referring to and that I am going to share tips is the upgrade process of major versions of IBM Maximo Asset Management, Industry Solutions and add-ons.
For example, the upgrade of IBM Maximo Asset Management 6.2.8 to IBM Maximo Asset Management 188.8.131.52, or starting from the IBM Maximo Asset Management 6.2.8 and ending in the
IBM Maximo Asset Management 184.108.40.206 version, etc.
Upgrades from IBM Maximo Asset Management 6.2.7 to IBM Maximo Asset Management 6.2.8, for example, or IBM Maximo Asset Management 220.127.116.11 to IBM Maximo Asset Management 18.104.22.168
or any other similar "patch update" like these are another kind of "upgrade process" which will not be the focus of this blog.
This blog will contain mainly specific tips to go ahead with the upgrade process. If you don't know or don't understand the whole process, make sure to refer to the main guidelines that you can find in
the IBM Maximo Upgrade Resources support web page before following the tips.
You also can find more information about the requirements (start points and end points of this kind of upgrade process) in the IBM Maximo Upgrade Requirements Matrix support web page:
And, of course, if you are a client wiling to upgrade your IBM Maximo Asset Management version, please contact the IBM support for more information and details.
I am going to start by sharing, in my next post, a tip to move forward quickly when you are testing the upgrade process of IBM MAM 6.2.8 to 22.214.171.124 (or 126.96.36.199) and the Validate run reports
an error due duplicates in the phone table.
So, until the next post.
Jean Carlos RIbeiro Gonçalves.
