WebSphere Traditional Installation Information

Customers should reference the following topic prior to installation of WebSphere Traditional in the IBM WebSphere Documentation:

Before installing WebSphere Traditional, the following topic should be reviewed for Operating System specific related prerequisites and compatible FixPack levels:

IBM Installation Manager must be used to install WebSphere Traditional v8.5.5.x and V9.0.x. WebSphere Support recommends that the current or latest IBM Installation Manager version be used for install or update of WebSphere Traditional v8.5.5 or v9.0. Reference the following technote for download of the latest available Installation Manager version from the IBM Fix Central site:

WebSphere 9.0.x requires IBM Java 8 to be installed at the same time as WebSphere v9. You can install the latest IBM Java 8 when you install the G.A. Level of WebSphere Traditional. Reference the following technote for the IBM Java 8 levels for WebSphere v9:
IBM SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0 for WebSphere Application Server V9 and WebSphere Liberty using Installation Manager
Once the .zip files are downloaded, transferred to the target system, and unzipped, the local repository (directory containing extracted files) must be configured in Installation Manager, if using the IBMIM gui.

WebSphere Traditional can be installed using the Installation Manager IBMIM gui, the imcl install command, or the imcl input command with a response file, per the topics below from the IBM WebSphere Documentation.

If the IBMIM gui is used to install WebSphere Traditional, the WebSphere repository or repositories, which can be local or web-based must first be configured in Installation Manager, per the following topic:

After installing the G.A. level of WebSphere v8.5.5 or 9.0.5, customers should update WebSphere to the current FixPack level, and Java 1.8 to the latest level, preferably, referring to the following technotes, for preventative maintenance, prior to creation of WebSphere profiles, and application deployments.
