Monitor the health of your services across the distributed cloud from one panel, with an easy, one-time setup.

IBM Cloud Satellite allows you to distribute your applications across on-premises, edge computing and all public cloud environments with a consistent security and compliance posture. For your databases, this means reduced latency, high availability, automated daily backups, and more.

But with so much to keep track of, how do you know what to look at? Whether it’s a sudden surge in usage that surpasses available memory or too-high disk IO utilization bottlenecking applications and reducing write latency, IBM Cloud Monitoring will bring all your metrics to one pane of glass. From your database instance, easily jump in with default dashboards that you can copy, customize, and share with your team.

Even though IBM Cloud Databases provides managed databases, which automates many frustrating DevOps and database administration issues, application-level code can still crash or slow down any managed database. It is important to not only turn on monitoring and logging services, but to maximize the benefits these tools provide by setting up alerts in your Sysdig service for your key performance concerns. For example, if you set up alerts for when your disk usage surpasses a set percentage (say 70%), any jumps in usage won’t exceed capacity limits and bring down your database.

How should I get started?

This part does require some initial setup. To ensure your database is running the way you want it to, you’ll need to specify requirements specific to your application, run tests to determine what healthy and unhealthy databases look like and configure alerts on the specific metrics you care about. Some users need to distribute CPU resources for multiple processes, while others allow their databases to take full CPU capacity, caring more about timing and latency.

Then, once your alerts are set up, you can forget it — really! These previously defined alerts will let you know if anything happens. Integrations further simplify the job, such as an integration with PagerDuty that triggers an incident and ensures any issues are dealt with promptly.

Probable Root Cause: Accelerating incident remediation with causal AI

5 min read - It has been proven time and time again that a business application’s outages are very costly. The estimated cost of an average downtime can run USD 50,000 to 500,000 per hour, and more as businesses are actively moving to digitization. The complexity of applications is growing as well, so Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) require hours—and sometimes days—to identify and resolve problems.   To alleviate this problem, we have introduced the new feature Probable Root Cause as part of Intelligent Incident…
