IBM Maximo helps Parque Bondinho strengthen maintenance and keep operations running smoothly
For more than 113 years, Parque Bondinho has carried millions of visitors to one of Rio’s most celebrated views, operating within a UNESCO‑recognized landscape where safety and reliability have long been central values.
With 50M+ lifetime visitors and thousands arriving each day, the operation naturally developed its own traditions: maintenance notes carefully logged on paper, daily routines tracked in spreadsheets, and teams relying on familiar tools that supported decades of continuous service.
As the attraction expanded, so did the diversity of its operations—industrial equipment, facilities care and guest‑facing tasks each following their own organically grown processes. This made it harder to share information in real time, coordinate work across teams, and maintain consistent visibility into the health of critical assets.
With more technicians joining the operation and more touchpoints to manage, the park needed a modern way to connect people, maintenance activities and asset insight.
To support the next century of service, Parque Bondinho required clearer visibility, smoother collaboration, and a foundation built to unify its long‑standing operational rhythm.
CIA Caminho Aéreo Pão de Açúcar partnered with Aquarelle, an IBM Business Partner, to implement IBM® Maximo® Application Suite as the central asset management platform for Parque Bondinho. The goal was to bring operational information into a single environment, connecting teams, processes and critical assets across an operation that welcomes thousands of visitors every day.
With the solution, maintenance, inspection and safety activities became digitally managed. Information once spread across paper records, spreadsheets and multiple tools was consolidated into a single platform, enabling managers and technicians to access the same data in real time.
Using Maximo Mobile, asset histories, work orders and job plans became available directly in the field. This reduced the administrative effort required to record and retrieve maintenance information, improved agility in day-to-day activities and accelerated incident reporting.
As the central asset management platform for the Iter Group, IBM Maximo also strengthened activity traceability and supported data-driven decision-making, creating a common foundation for the ongoing evolution of maintenance operations.
Between 2023 and 2026 (Jan-Aug), Parque Bondinho reduced its average maintenance backlog by approximately 41%, decreasing from about 97 to 57 actions per month. The result reflects a more structured operation with greater visibility into planning, tracking and executing maintenance activities across an environment that welcomes thousands of visitors every day.
The digitalization of maintenance processes also reduced the administrative effort associated with recording and retrieving maintenance information. With access to data directly in the field through IBM Maximo Mobile, teams gained agility in executing activities, reporting occurrences and closing work orders.
In addition to operational improvements, the organization strengthened maintenance traceability, reduced paper-based processes and established a shared information foundation to support increasingly data-driven asset management decisions.
Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar is located in Rio de Janeiro and operates the historic cable car inaugurated in 1912, recognized as part of a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape. Operated by CIA Caminho Aéreo Pão de Açúcar, it is part of Iter and welcomes approximately 2,500 visitors per day, building on more than 113 years of safety, operational excellence and continuous innovation.
