Tech magicians in action at STHLM Tech Fest

During this year’s STHLM Tech Fest 2017 the magician Daniel Kane left you with a feeling that the impossible is in fact possible as he made real doves appear and then disappear on stage in front of a full house at the Waterfront Congress Center in Stockholm.
In the tech world magic happens when innovators capitalize on cloud, engage the ecosystem, and leverage ideas from other industries. The overarching theme during STHLM Tech Fest 2017 was ”The Future of” – in all shapes and forms – but all including an element of ”tech” and a lot of exciting examples and solutions using artificial intelligence, new ecosystem partnerships – all leveraging advantages of cloud technology.
At STHLM Tech Fest 2017 there was a steady alternation between inspiring keynote presentations, start-up pitches and fireside chats. The general advice for creating magic in the tech world was to remain curious, work with the ecosystem, and build on what already exists instead of re-inventing the wheel – leveraging a cross-pollination of ideas and trends across all verticals. Peter Sunde, serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Pirate Bay, also made a point about seeking inspiration and ideas by speaking and interacting with different activists, artists and groups of people outside the regular tech scene.
In The Future of AI is Now session Victoria Nordin and Mikael Haglund explained how to use Watson APIs to create cognitive applications – “magical” applications that understand and reason – not just search data. This was exemplified by the robot Furhat who understands, reasons and responds to questions – on stage – but also at Arbetsformedlingen where it or he will be helping unemployed people. Furhat Robotics are leveraging Watson APIs on IBM Cloud to enable Furhat to interact with people in an intelligent way. A first class example of an AI solution, capitalizing on cloud and created within an ecosystem partnership. Tech magicians in action!
