IBM SQL Query now includes a full database catalog for all your data stored on cloud object storage.

The catalog is powered by a fully managed Hive Metastore compatible service in IBM Cloud.

Each one of your instances of SQL query is now also a database namespace where you can create, manage, and query tables as in any relational database.

Benefits

You are now able to do the following:

  • Improve performance: Avoid the significant impact of schema and partition inference.
  • Ensure consistency: Attach/remove partitions of objects in an atomic way with concurrent queries running.
  • Decouple data management: Use an alias to decouple the table name from the data location so that if the data location changes, the table name remains unchanged.

For further details on these benefits and more, please see the documentation.
