Configuring the environment by using Linux commands

In complex environments, running the Setup wizard might not sufficiently configure the VM image.

About this task

If the VM is equipped with multiple network interfaces, for example, then customer's administrators might have to more precisely configure those interfaces. In such a case, they might need to use operating system commands instead of the setup wizard to configure those interfaces precisely.

For another example, ports 22 (SSH), 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) are all open by default. You might need to reconfigure the firewall after, or instead of, running the setup wizard. For example, you might want to close one or more of these ports according to your corporate security requirements.

The following topics describe the operating system commands for configuring passwords, network interfaces, and firewall settings. Use this information to accomplish configurations beyond the abilities of the setup wizard, or to reconfigure specific elements of the system after you run the setup wizard.
