Adding Conceptual Search to a Search Application

Watson™ Explorer Engine applications are defined by projects, which contain references to the other components of a Watson Explorer Engine application, such as a source, a search collection, a display, and so on. At a minimum, adding conceptual search to a Watson Explorer Engine application requires:

  • modifications to the project for that application
  • modifications to the display used by the project that defines your application

When adding domain-specific information such as a thesaurus, a list of alternate terms such as spelling variations, and so on, you must also create a search collection that contains these, initiate a crawl of that collection, and then identify them in your project.

The next few sections walk you through the basic process of adding thesaurus-based conceptual search to an existing project, using a sample ontolection that is provided with Watson Explorer Engine and which provides alternate terms using files containing United States/United Kingdom spelling variations, hyphenated word, and compound terms.
