TS2900 tape autoloader and TS3100, TS3200, TS3310, and TS4300 tape libraries

How to remove and add tape drives for the TS2900 tape autoloader and the TS3100, TS3200, TS3310, and TS4300 tape libraries.

About this task

When IBM Spectrum Archive™ mounts the library, all tape drives are inventoried to it. This procedure can be used when a tape drive requires replacing or repairing.
Note: After you mount the library, the user must issue the ltfsadmintool command. This command allows the user to manage the library and to correct a problem if one occurs. For more information, see Managing a library by using the ltfsadmintool command.

Complete the following steps to remove a tape drive from the library and to add one:

Procedure

  1. Unmount the tape library on Spectrum Archive Library Edition. For more information, see Unmounting a library.
  2. Physically remove the tape drive from the tape library or add the tape drive to the tape library. See the tape library's product manual for instructions. For more information, see Accessing operator guides for tape libraries and drives.
  3. Observe the best practices for your operating system by taking the following actions:
On Linux systems, use the following commands to initialize the software stack of the device drivers:
    1. $ lin_taped stop (Stop the tape device driver daemon.)
    2. $ rmmod lin_tape (Stop the tape device driver.)
    3. $ rmmod lpfc (Remove the HBA driver.)
    4. $ modprobe lpfc (Reload the HBA driver.)
    5. $ modprobe lin_tape (Load the tape device driver.)
    6. $ lin_taped start (Load the tape device driver daemon.)
Note: In this example, Spectrum Archive Library Edition uses lpfc as a host bus adapter (HBA) driver.
On Windows systems, perform the following steps:
    1. Uninstall the Windows device driver.
    2. Reboot the Windows server.
    3. Reinstall the Windows device driver.
  4. Mount the tape library on Spectrum Archive Library Edition. For more information, see Mounting a library on a Linux system or Starting Spectrum Archive and mounting a library on a Windows system.
