Using the management interface

How to use the IBM® TS7700 Management Interface and its common page and table components.

Important: To support Japanese input, a Japanese front-end processor needs to be installed on the computer where a web browser is running the management interface.
Each cluster in a grid uses its own login page, which is the first page that is displayed when you enter the cluster URL in your browser address field. The login page displays the name and number of the cluster to be accessed.
You can access other clusters in the same grid after you log in to a cluster.
Browsing between pages
You can move between management interface pages by using the iconic navigation, by clicking active links on a page or on the banner, or by starting a menu option.
Note: You cannot use the Back or Forward buttons or the Go Back or Go Forward options in your browser to browse between management interface pages.
Banner
The banner is common to all pages of the management interface. You can use banner elements to go to other clusters in the grid, complete user tasks, and locate additional information about the management interface.
Table 1. Actions available from the page banner
To... Do this:
Return to the main system page from any other page of the management interface Click the home icon in the breadcrumb navigation displayed on the left side of the banner.
The main system page is the Cluster Summary if the selected cluster is a stand-alone cluster, or the Grid Summary if the cluster is part of a grid.
View the same page for a different cluster in a grid
  1. Hover over the cluster nickname in the breadcrumb navigation.
  2. Click a cluster from the drop-down menu.
Log out of the management interface Select User Name>Log Out
Modify the password associated with the User Name Refer to the topic Modify password in the Related information section.
Enable/Disable the Low graphics mode Refer to the topic Low graphics mode in the Related information section.
View password expiration for the User Name that is logged in Hover over any exclamation point (!) shown to the right of the User Name. For more information, see Password expiration in the Related information section.

Status and alert indicators
Status and alert indicators occur at the bottom of each management interface page. These indicators provide a quick status check for important cluster and grid properties.
Grid indicators provide information for the entire grid. These indicators are displayed on the left and right corners of the page footer and include:
  • Tasks
  • Alerts
Cluster indicators provide information only for the selected cluster and are displayed only on management interface pages that have a cluster scope. These three indicators occur in the middle of the page footer and include:
  • Physical Cache
  • Copy Queues
  • Health Status
Note: Refresh rates for status and alert indicators can differ from refresh rates on other pages that display similar information. For example, the Health Status indicator refreshes every 30 seconds while the Events page refreshes every 60 seconds. Similarly, the Physical Cache indicator refreshes every 30 seconds while the Cache Capacity Tube on the Cluster Summary page refreshes every 60 seconds. As a result, minor discrepancies might be observed during normal operation. When making comparisons with information displayed on another page, click the manual refresh icon to view the most recent information available.
Table 2. Health and status indicators
Indicator Description
Tasks Clipboard icon that contains a check mark, displayed in the lower left corner of the page. Use to determine any running or recently completed long running tasks.
Note: If the selected cluster is a stand-alone cluster, any tasks that are shown are for that cluster only. If the selected cluster is part of a grid, the tasks that are shown are for the entire grid.
A number inside a blue circle is displayed on the clipboard to indicate total running or recently completed tasks.
  • Hover over the number of tasks to display the three most recently started tasks and their status.
  • Click a task to open the Tasks page.
When a new task starts, completes, or fails, this indicator displays a notification for approximately two seconds.
Alerts Clipboard icon that contains an X, displayed in the lower right corner of the page. Use to determine active critical and warning events for the grid.
Note: This indicator is not displayed if the selected cluster is a stand-alone cluster.

A number inside a circle is displayed on the clipboard to indicate the total active events on the grid.
A yellow circle indicates that the most severe event is Warning or Degraded.
A red circle indicates that the most severe event is Critical or Failed.
A blue circle indicates that the most severe event is Informational.

  • Hover over the number of alerts to display the three highest severity events on the grid.
  • Click an event to open the Events page.
When a new alert arrives, this indicator displays a notification for approximately 2 seconds.
Physical Cache Displays physical cache capacity for the selected cluster by using this color scheme:
Green
Cache used
If the selected cluster is a TS7720 /TS7760, then Flash Copy data is included in this amount.
Light green
Available cache
  • Click to open the Cache Utilization page.
Copy Queues Displays incoming copy queue information for the selected cluster by using this color scheme:
Grey
Queue is empty.
Note: Since copies occur between clusters, this status is shown when the selected cluster is a stand-alone cluster.
Blue
Immediate, deferred, or family-deferred copies exist in the queue.
Yellow
Synchronous-deferred, immediate-deferred, or copy refresh copies exist in the queue.
  • Hover over the indicator to display the three largest queues, ordered by importance.
  • Click a queue item to open the Copy Queue page.
Health Status Displays health status of the selected cluster and any critical or warning events on the cluster. The color scheme that is used consists of the following values:
Green
Normal, no issues exist on the cluster.
Yellow
A warning or degraded event exists.
Orange
A failed event exists.
Red
A fatal event exists.
If multiple events exist, the indicator displays the color corresponding to the most severe active event.
  • Hover over the indicator to display the top three highest severity events.
  • Click an event to open the Events page.

Fields containing a dash (-) instead of a value
If a field or table cell on the IBM TS7700 Management Interface displays a dash (-) instead of a value, then no value exists for that field or cell.
Accessing clusters with different code levels
In a TS7700 Grid, separate clusters can have different management interface microcode levels. Through a management interface operation, you can access a remote cluster that has a different microcode level than the local cluster. You are prompted to log in to the remote cluster or return back to the local management interface. If you opt to log in to the remote cluster, you are redirected to the cluster login page.
