The new and enhanced capabilities available in IBM® CICS Explorer® versions later than Version 5.3 are described.

What's new in Version 5.3.0.11

Table 1. New function
New Function Description
For resources that have been installed from a bundle, a simpler method is provided to locate the originating bundle. To navigate back to the bundle that installed a resource, right-click on the resource and click Open Related > Bundle. This change enables you to quickly manage the state of the bundle and any installed resources. The advantage is you can remain within your context looking at your resources while you carry out this procedure.
The version of z/OS® Explorer within CICS Explorer is updated to support importing certificates Support for client certificate authentication from a keystore file on disk, or from a smart card, is available. For more information, see Defining connection credentials Managing SSL security and certificates

Table 2. New function
New Function Description
New views for LSR Pools and LSR Pool Buffers Two new views are added for LSR Pools (LSRPOOL) and LSR Pool Buffers (LSRPBUF).

The LSR pool (LSRPOOL) is a reserve of data buffers, strings, and Hiperspace™ buffers that VSAM uses when it is processing access requests for certain files. For more information, see LSRPOOL Resource Table.

The LSR Pool Buffer (LSRPBUF) view is a CICS® resource that describes a local shared resources buffer pool in an active CICS system that is being managed by CICSPlex® SM. For more information, see LSRPBUF Resource Table

You can access the LSR Pool and LSR Pool Buffer views from the CICS Explorer Operations menu.
You can import view customizations from a web server and also as a file on disk Two options are now provided for you to import views. You can browse locally or you can use the HTTP URL option. For more information, see Importing CICS resource table views.
zFS Unix File System paths to files or folders are now hyperlinked Resources view columns that contain zFS Unix File System paths to files or folders, are presented as a hyperlink. When you click on the link, it opens the file or folder.
You can now verify that a bundle has enabled successfully after installing When your perform anInstall operation, a new check box is added to "Verify the resource enables successfully". The check box is selected by default, and is remembered for next time. The status area shows CICS Explorer waiting for the bundle to enable. After the bundle is enabled, the dialog closes. If the enablement takes too long you can cancel the dialog and investigate the problem.
Some older views in the Operations menu are removed, but are available to re-create To update and simplify the Operations menu, these older views are now removed:
  • Corba Servers
  • JVM Class Caches
  • JVM Pools
  • JVM Profiles
  • JVM Status
When you create your new workspace, these views are no longer contained in the Operations menu. You can add them back using the Operations > Create New Table View menu. For more information, see Creating a CICS resource table view.
Liberty Libraries The Liberty libraries available in CICS Explorer target platforms, are upgraded to Liberty 16.0.0.3.

What's new in Version 5.3.0.8

Table 3. New function
New Function Description
Ability to Import and Export views For most CICS resource table views, the options to configure a view are in the Preferences window. You can use the Import and Export options to share or receive customized views, by using the Export option to send the view, or use the Import option to receive a view and add to your workspace.
System Links The CICS System Links view SYSLINK describes the endpoints of a communications link between two CICS systems being managed by CICSPlex SM. In Explorer, see the SM Administration perspective then select Definitions. System Links is displayed in the list. For information on system link codes for active CICS systems, see System Links view. For more information, see SYSLINK Resource Table.
Saving a view's settings to its configuration The Save to Configuration option in the view menu saves the changes that you made to a view back to the view's configuration. After creating a new view configuration for a specific task, for instance showing running tasks, you can use quick filters within the view to set up the view as you require, then use the save to configuration button to update the view's configuration with these changes. For more information, see Saving a view's settings to its configuration
Table 4. Changed function
Changed Function Description
Configure View icon is renamed The Configure View icon is renamed to Open View Configurations. When you click on the Open View Configurations icon Open View Configurations icon the Preferences window is opened to the CICS View Configurations section of the Preferences with your view pre-selected. The Customize View dialog is replaced with the Edit View Configuration dialog in the Preferences window.
Performance improvements to CICSPlex SM queries Performance is improved in several views within CICS Explorer which is achieved by reducing the number of requests that are made to CICS by one third. The result is the CICSPlex Explorer and Workload Management Specification editor loads faster.
Improvements to Exporting Bundles to z/OS Unix File System When you make the choice to export to a platform or a specific folder in the first page of the export wizard, your choice is now remembered for each bundle project by a check box that is already selected, and is the default setting.
A new "Disable and Discard" check box is added as a single operation A new check box is added to the discard dialog Disable before discarding for you to chose if you want to disable and discard in a single operation. This option is to save time by providing the convenience of performing two operations at once. This option is exclusive to Bundles, so Bundle lifecycle developers find this useful.

What's new in Version 5.3.0.5

Table 5. New function
New Function Description
Changing or configuring a CICS resource table view For most CICS resource table views, you can specify the columns, filtering and sorting to use in a view in two ways:
  • Configure the view to change it permanently. You can change columns, set one or more filters, and sort by one or more columns. Your changes are saved in the view configuration so that the view shows the information that you specified every time that you open it.
  • Make temporary or flexible changes in the open view. You can change columns, use quick filters, and sort by one column. Your changes are retained with the view if you refresh or reopen it, but are not saved to the view configuration.

These changes do not apply to a small number of older-style views, as listed in Changing specific resource views.

Configuring a CICS resource table view For most CICS resource table views, the options to configure a view are moved to the Preferences window.

A new Configure View icon Configure View icon is provided in the toolbar of these CICS resource table views. This option displays the CICS View Configurations pane in the Preferences window.

In the Contents pane of the Preferences window, a new Explorer > CICS View Configurations option is provided to display the CICS View Configurations pane.

The new CICS View Configurations pane lists the existing views and provides the following options:

When you open a configured view, a new Filtered icon Filtered icon is displayed in the column header for each attribute that is used to filter the resources.

Any new views are listed on the Operations or Definitions menus on the main menu for the workbench.

Quick filters in an open CICS resource table view For most CICS resource table views, you can filter by one or more resource attributes in the open view. You can select a value of a resource attribute in the view, or specify a resource attribute, to filter resources by. These filters are known as quick filters.

A new menu option, Add Quick Filter, is provided when you right-click an attribute value in a view. This option creates and applies a quick filter that uses the selected attribute value.

A new menu option, Quick Filters, is provided on the View menu in the toolbar of the view. This option creates a quick filter that uses the selected attribute.

If one or more quick filters are created for a view, those filter fields are displayed in a new filter toolbar in the view.

A new Filtered icon Filtered icon is displayed in the column header of an attribute when a filter is applied.

Quick filters are retained with the view if you refresh or reopen it, but are not saved to the view configuration.

For more information, see Filtering resources in a view.

Options to change an open CICS resource table view For most CICS resource table views, the View menu icon is available in the toolbar of the view. This menu provides the following options:
Opening sorted or filtered CICS resource table views If you attempt to open a CICS resource table view that has sorting by column or complex filtering specified, but your CICS system connection does not support this sorting or filtering, the view does not open and new error messages are displayed.

The error messages describe how to resolve the issues and open the view. See Opening views.

This situation occurs with CICS system connections that support only the "Equal to" (=) filter operator or do not support sorting by a column.

This situation does not occur with a CICS management client interface (CMCI) connection to CICS TS Version 4 or later, which supports all the sorting and filtering described in this information.

Table 6. Changed function
Changed Function Description
Customizing a CICS resource table view This function is replaced by the options to configure resource table views by using the Preferences window. The Customize view icon is removed from the toolbar of the view and the Customize View dialog is no longer available.
Availability of VSAM data set In the Physical data sets for files view for a VSAM data set, the AVAILABILITY attribute has a new value RREPL. If the AVAILABILITY attribute of a VSAM data is set to RREPL, full access to the data set is then restricted to replication programs, while other programs have just read access. RREPL is used in an active-standby and active-query configuration to control replication of VSAM data.
