IMS mobile (REST/JSON) solution

The IMS™ mobile solution allows you to model, assemble, publish, and test IMS transactions as Representational State Transfer (REST) or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) services. These services can then be consumed by mobile and cloud applications to access IMS assets on z/OS® in a secure, managed, governed, and optimized way.

The IMS mobile solution includes tooling support through IMS Explorer for Development for modeling, assembling, publishing, and testing IMS transactions as REST/JSON services. These services run on either IBM® z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (z/OS Connect EE) or WebSphere® Application Server Liberty Profile z/OS Connect.

The IMS Mobile Feature Pack is a service provider that runs on either of the servers to handle communications and data conversion between the server and IMS. Two versions of the IMS Mobile Feature Pack are available, one for each of the servers.

IBM z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (PID: 5655-CEE)
IBM z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (z/OS Connect EE) provides a fast, secure, and reliable connector for clients to reach z/OS assets by using Representational State Transfer (REST) calls. You can secure individual or groups of z/OS Connect EE services with SAF security in which only specific users or groups can have access to specific services. z/OS Connect EE also provides you the ability to uniformly track requests from cloud, mobile, and web environments by using z/OS System Management Facility (SMF) services with your existing processes for auditing and chargeback for requests from these environments. z/OS Connect EE also provides support for RESTful API definition and deployment. A deployment artifact, referred to as an API package, is generated by an Eclipse-based API editor, the z/OS Connect EE API Editor. The generated API package includes Swagger 2.0 standard description, and can be deployed to the z/OS Connect EE run time as a z/OS-based RESTful API. The API contains documentation that instructs application developers how to consume the API. z/OS Connect EE includes an HTTP-to-JSON mapping capability for transforming JSON messages to the required format of the z/OS subsystems.

IMS Mobile Feature Pack for z/OS Connect EE is a service provider for z/OS Connect EE that handles communication and data conversion between z/OS Connect EE and IMS.

Important: This component is now included in z/OS Connect EE V2.0.5 (APAR PI70432) or later as the IMS service provider to simplify the installation and getting started process. This component in IMS Enterprise Suite V3.2 is removed by the last APAR PI70548. For existing customers, the APAR hold card provides the information about the upgrade process to z/OS Connect EE V2.0.5 (APAR PI70432). Existing services and APIs remain untouched. No migration step is required.

For more information, see Using the IMS service provider in z/OS Connect EE product information.

WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile z/OS Connect
The z/OS Connect feature in WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile provides a fast, secure, and reliable connector for clients to reach z/OS assets by using Representational State Transfer (REST) calls. You can take full advantage of SAF security for access control and z/OS System Management Facility (SMF) services for auditing and chargeback purposes. However, z/OS Connect does not provide support for RESTful API definition and deployment.

IMS Mobile Feature Pack is a service provider for WebSphere Liberty z/OS Connect that handles communication and data conversion between z/OS Connect and IMS.

Start of change
Important: IMS Enterprise Suite V3.2.1 is the last release to include this component. No further updates will be made to either WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile V8.5.5.7 or its z/OS Connect V1.0 feature that are bundled in this component. Customers should move to z/OS Connect EE v2.0.5 or later, which not only includes the IMS Mobile feature but also supports later releases of these bundled components and additionally provides support for REST API creation and deployment.
