Continuous improvement
In the past, modeling tools tended to be based on a static view of storage system models. Today, systems and configuration options are increasingly dynamic. Also, prediction and assessment
of systems is continually improving. As a web-based tool, IBM Storage Modeller accommodates this new reality.
Here are some new ways of working that customers and IBM Sales staff will notice in Storage Modeller:
▪Customers enjoy ample reporting options, based on SpreadJS spreadsheets that are integral to the user interface. Customers can and should preserve the spreadsheet reports regarding past
models and their predictions so that they can track and compare model results.
▪Storage Modeller does not preserve old predictions and assessments in a model. And its newest reports occasionally might reflect lesser performance results, for example, slower speeds
compared to past predictions. Such changes happen because of improved accuracy in the model, which arises for reasons such as these:
– New data analysis and field experience is incorporated into the tool’s algorithms.
– Device enhancements and the complexities of mixed systems can change reported results in many dimensions.
Consider this example of Storage Modeller’s continual release strategy. Initial release focused on providing capacity and performance modeling for a selection of IBM block storage devices.
Later, object-based and file-based storage were added. Storage Modeller both replaced IBM legacy tools and provided more updated functions.
Development of the capacity function in IBM Storage Modeller is occurring in parallel with the development of the performance function. Users will notice capacity and performance functions
being updated continuously. Releases are paced based on development, testing of functions before release and the complexity of the systems. The Storage Modeller capacity and performance
modeling functions are being built to completely integrate within Storage Modeller. Unlike legacy tool suites, these functions are not implemented as separate tools or modules.

Continual releases permit Storage Modeller to reflect the most current information regarding Storage Families and devices that are supported with performance and capacity
functions. When you open Storage Modeller, click the bell icon (message notifications) to see notifications about the newest updates.
