Introduction to performance modeling in Storage Modeller
To enable Storage Modeller to predict the performance of a modeled storage system, the configuration of the system must be completely entered. This includes the storage system type, model
number, and release (version). These values are the primary determinants of the performance capabilities of the machine. In addition, the following factors are important:
▪The amount of system memory determines the internal cache that is available for I/O operations. This factor limits the maximum amount of read and writes that the system can perform
without running into cache shortages.
▪For IBM Storage Virtualize systems, the number of I/O Groups, and for DS8000 systems, the number of CPU Cores determine the exact point at which the Processor and Bus become bottlenecks
in the system.
