Additional capacity considerations
When planning IBM i capacity, keep in mind the following factors:
The unique metadata (collected in each 9th sector) and the shift of block content almost eliminate any deduplication savings.
With typical IBM i workload, you can expect about 50% capacity improvement with compression.
IBM i with its integrated Db2 database often runs transactional workloads -- including journaling -- that typically result in rather write-intensive workloads. Such workloads require low storage I/O response times over high data throughput and can’t really benefit from read-intensive drives.
