Summary
IBM Content Collector 4.0.1 fix pack 12 (4.0.1.12) supports using IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation as a repository for Content Collector for File Systems without full-text indexing.
Objective
Setting up a new server to use the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation as a repository for Content Collector for File Systems.
Steps
Perform the following steps to set up the Content Collector server (ICC Server).
Setting up Content Collector Server to use Cloud Pak for Business Automation with File Systems
- Download the Content Platform Engine API package from the Cloud Pak for Business Automation user portal or use the traditional on-premises Content Platform Engine Client and API package.
- Install the Web Services Enhancements.
- Install the Content Platform Engine .Net API (FileNetApiSetup.msi) and confirm the .Net API version in the Control Panel.
- If the Content Platform Engine API package is downloaded from the Cloud Pak for Business Automation user portal, perform the following steps:
- Create a directory structure and copy all the files from the cpeapilib folder (downloaded in Step 1) to the following path:
C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient\lib - Take a backup of the version.txt file from the cpeapilib folder and place it in the following location:
C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient - Rename the version.txt file to ce_version.txt.
- Create a directory structure and copy all the files from the cpeapilib folder (downloaded in Step 1) to the following path:
- Install Content Collector 4.0.1 fix pack 12 (4.0.1.12) (from the IBM Fix Central) with File Systems as Source and FileNet P8 as Repository.
Ignore any 'prerequisites missing' warning for IBM FileNet Content Engine Client on the Preinstallation Summary page, as shown in the following screenshot:

- Add the following environment variable and reboot the system:
Variable name: IBMAFUFNCEROOT
Value: C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient - Set the following variable in the startInitialConfig.bat file located at <IBM_installation_folder>\Configuration:
IBMAFUFNCEROOT= C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient - Set the following variable in the AfuEnv.bat file located at <IBM_installation_folder>\AFUWEB:
FNCEPATH= C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient - Establish a trust relationship between the Content Collector Web Application Server and Cloud Pak for Business Automation:
- Obtain Cloud Pak for Business Automation Root CA certificate
- Login to the OCP console using the Cloud Pak for Business Automation admin operator.
- Select the appropriate project.
- Go to Workloads on the left pane and click Secrets.
- Search for a secret ending with root-ca.
- Open the secret and copy the tls.crt value.
- Save the contents in a new file with .cer extension.
- For further steps, refer to the 'Establishing a trust relationship with IBM FileNet P8' section in Migrating IBM embedded WebSphere Application Server to IBM WebSphere Application Liberty Server.
- Obtain Cloud Pak for Business Automation Root CA certificate
- Open Microsoft Management tool (Start > Run > MMC).
- Go to File > Add/Remove Snap-in.
- Double-click Certificates from the list of Available snap-ins, and select Computer Account.
- Click Next and select Local Computer, and then click Finish.
- Click OK to exit the Snap-in window and to go to Console Root.
- Expand Certificates > Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates.
- Right-click Certificates > All Tasks > Import to open the Certificate Import Wizard, and click Next.
- Browse to the location where you have stored the certificate and select the .cer file saved in step 9. Click Next.
Make sure the Certificate Store is set to Trusted Root Certification Authorities. - Click Finish and wait until you see the success message: "The import was successful".
- Open the browser to check if the following link opens successfully:
https://<SERVER_NAME>:<port>/AFUWeb/isAlive.jsp - Launch the Initial Configuration Wizard and complete the steps.
- After the initial configuration, open the newly created catalog and navigate to the P8 Connector.
- Ensure that the status of the P8 Connection Set is not in the 'error' state.
- If the initial configuration or P8 Connection Set fails with the following error message, cross-check whether the certificate downloaded in step 9 is a Root CA certificate and not an intermediate self-signed certificate:
System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel" and "System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.
