Preventive Service Planning
Abstract
Upgrading to DB2® Version 10.1 might require upgrading your environment components. These components are DB2 servers, DB2 clients, database applications, and routines. Upgrading these components requires you to understand the DB2 database product upgrade concepts and the DB2 V10.1 database products.
This roadmap will help you navigate through the available information and resources related to upgrading from DB2 Version 9.5 or DB2 Version 9.7 to DB2 Version 10.1.
Content
Your first point of reference to learn how to upgrade each component of your DB2 environment and how to create an upgrade plan is the Upgrading to DB2 Version 10.1 guide. The content of this guide is available in IBM Knowledge Center. The highest level topic of this guide is Upgrade to DB2 Version 10.1.
Table of Contents
Prerequisites
If you are upgrading from DB2 Version 9.1 or earlier, you need to first upgrade to DB2 Version 9.7 or Version 9.5.
Ensure that you meet the operating system and hardware requirements for DB2 Version 10.1 as described in the Installation requirements for DB2 database products topic.
Review changes in Version 10.1 to existing functionality from previous releases that can affect your DB2 environment upgrade:- Upgrade essentials for DB2 servers
- Upgrade essentials for data clients
- Upgrade essentials for database applications
- Upgrade essentials for routines
- Changes in existing functionality
- Version 10.1: Discontinued or deprecated functionality that affects DB2 server upgrades
- Version 10.1: Discontinued functionality summary
- Version 9.7: Discontinued or deprecated functionality that impacts DB2 server migration
- Version 9.7: Discontinued functionality summary
Query Patroller is discontinued in Version 10.1, you must remove this functionality before you can upgrade to DB2 Version 10.1. For more details, see the Query Patroller has been discontinued topic.
The Control Center tools and related wizards have been discontinued. IBM® Data Studio and IBM InfoSphere® Optim™ tools are recommended tools for performing tasks that are similar to the tasks that you previously performed using the Control Center tools. These recommended tools also provide enhanced features for tasks previously performed using the Control Center tools. For a mapping between these recommended tools and Control Center tools, see the Table of recommended tools versus Control Center tools. For more details about the discontinuation, see the Control Center tools have been discontinued topic.
There is no utility to fall back to a previous release after upgrading your DB2 servers. Refer to the Planning section for details.
Planning
Planning your DB2 environment upgrade requires you to determine a strategy on how to approach your DB2 environment upgrade and create an upgrade plan that includes all of the upgrade process details.
Determine all of the upgrade process details for each component in your environment that you need to know about to write your upgrade plan.- Planning your DB2 servers upgrade
- Planning your DB2 clients upgrade
- Planning database applications and routines upgrade
Upgrade prerequisites
Pre-upgrade tasks
Upgrade tasks
Post-upgrade tasks
Review APARs and known issues related to upgrading to DB2 Version 10.1 in the Troubleshooting section. If these issues impact your DB2 environment upgrade, add the actions on how to resolve these issues to your upgrade plan.
To fall back to a previous release after upgrading your DB2 servers, add details about the tasks required to reverse a DB2 server upgrade to your upgrade plan . These details should include any steps required in the upgrade task that enable you to reverse an upgrade.
