APAR Error Description / Circumvention

Notification of a changed user profile is not performed for user
management applications when QSYSUPWD API is used to set the
password.

CORRECTION FOR APAR 'SE51588' :
-------------------------------
Prior to this fix, notifications about the user password
changing when using the QSYSUPWD API was not done which resulted
in false positives when viewing user synchronization management
applications.

- For user profiles which are synchronized via IBM i Cluster
Administrative Domains, the global status of the user profile
MRE (Monitored Resource Entry) showed Consistent even though the
password may have been different.
- For user profiles which are synchronized via IBM i Integrated
Server Support to Windows servers, the enrollment status showed
*CURRENT even though the passwords may have been different.

Since the use of the QSYSUPWD API does not allow a password to
be unencrypted, the user profile password is not available to
the user profile synchronization applications.  The change
provided with this fix will allow the user profile
synchronizations to be aware that the password was set via the
QSYSUPWD API and to cause the user profile synchronization
status to be marked appropriately.

- For user profiles that are synchronized via IBM i Cluster
Administrative Domains, the global status of the user profile
MRE will change to Inconsistent, and a local status of Update
Failed with message CPF22F5 on the other nodes in the cluster
administrative domain.
- For user profiles that are synchronized via IBM i Integrated
Server Support to Windows servers, the enrollment status will
change to *UPDFAIL with error message NTA0279; password not
valid.

To cause the password to be correctly synchronized to other
nodes in the Cluster Administrative Domain or Integrated Windows
Server when set with the QSYSUPWD API, the user must either sign
on to the IBM i system where the QSYSUPWD API was used or have
their password changed via the CHGUSRPRF or CHGPWD command.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR 'SE51588' :

Use CHGPWD or CHGUSRPRF commands to set the user profile
password.
