Application of this PTF may disable or render ineffective programs that
use system memory addresses not generated by the IBM translator,
including programs that circumvent control technology designed to limit
interactive capacity to purchased levels.  This PTF may be a prerequisite
for future PTFs.  By applying this PTF you authorize and agree to the
foregoing.

APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-------------------------------------------------
SLIC support for PASE may produce incorrect results for
character conversion of (Western) Arabic numerals and Eastern
Arabic (Indic) numerals when the job CCSID is 420 (Arabic
EBCDIC) and the PASE CCSID is 1208 (UTF-8).  Incorrect results
may also occur when the substitution character is converted from
Unicode to some single-byte encodings (including CCSID 420).

The first issue prevents PASE programs from receiving Eastern
Arabic numerals in argument and environment variable strings
(passed from any code that calls ILE Qp2RunPase), and may return
Eastern Arabic numerals instead of Arabic numerals in results
from some PASE system calls.  It can also block ssh login for a
user profile name that includes digit characters 6 through 9
when the ssh daemon runs in a job with CCSID 420.

CORRECTION FOR APAR 'MA49187' :
-------------------------------
PASE support in SLIC is changed to correct character conversions
between CCSID 420 (Arabic EBCDIC) and CCSID 1208 (UTF-8), and to
ensure the substitution character is converted correctly from
Unicode to any single-byte encoding.

These changes do not impact CCSID conversion for PASE
file/stream data or any interface where conversion is done by
IBM i MI/ILE support (typically using ILE iconv).

Any PASE program already running when the PTF is applied must be
restarted (using ILE Qp2RunPase or PASE exec) or run in a new
child process (created by PASE fork) to use the fix.  CCSID
conversion is only done for argument and environment variable
strings when ILE Qp2RunPase starts a PASE program.
