APAR Error Description / Circumvention

Problems fixed in this PTF:

If a path for a drive in a tape library is activated that does
not have an associated mover any operations that require a mover
will fail with MSGCPF414C.

A job that was using a tape may get a MSGCPF412F when it tries
to use the same tape on the same tape drive again.
This can occur if multiple jobs are using the tape library and
one job is issuing commands that only require the robot, like
DSPTAPCTG and WRKTAPCTG.

An attempt to vary on a tape library or tape drive may cause
QTAPARB system job to go into a long wait requiring an LPAR IPL
to recover.

A path fail over may result in a gate deadlock if the path fail
over works but a command sent to the new path fails before all
the held I/O has been sent to the new path.

It takes a long time for tape drives to become operational after
an IOP IPL.

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA47637 :
-----------------------------
The code has been changed to only use paths that have an
associated mover for drives in a tape library.

When there is no direct path to the robot a tape resource path
must be used to send commands to the tape device driver.
Commands that only require the robot will try to share a tape
resource that may be assigned to another job but is currently
not busy.
There was problem with the handling of requests to use tape
resources that resulted in the wrong return code being returned
so the wrong action was being taken.
In this case a MSGCPF412F was issued instead of the request
waiting until the resource was available.

There was a problem where the response notifying the vary on
processing that a failure occurred was not being sent. This
caused the QTAPARB system job to wait.
This particular problem has been fixed.

The gate handling has been changed to prevent the deadlock that
could occur if a command failed before we got all the held I/O
sent to the new path.

A gate was being held during a task wait that resulted in it
taking longer for drives to become operational.

CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR MA47637 :

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM FIXED FOR APAR MA47890 :
-----------------------------------------------
An IOP IPL while a *TAP device description is being varied may
cause a gate deadlock between two tasks. The deadlock will cause
the vary on to wait and the IOP IPL to wait.
When the system is IPLed the IPL may wait on SRCD90027C0
requiring a forced shutdown and IPL.

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA47890 :
-----------------------------
A gate was locked when it should not have. The code was changed
to release the gate which prevents the deadlock.
