APAR Error Description / Circumvention
-----------------------------------------------
In an IBM i hosting IBM i environment, a Network Server Storage
Space (NWSSTG) is created with a particular sector size value
(for example, 4096) then linked to a Network Server Description
(NWSD) that is then varied on so that the virtual disk is
available to the client and a disk resource is created with the
proper type (for example, 6B4E-050). If the NWSD is then varied
off, the NWSSTG is deleted and a new NWSSTG is created with an
identical name but a different sector size (such as 512), then
linked to the same NWSD and varied on, a new disk resource with
a different type (for example, 6B22-050) does not appear on
client partition screens as expected.
Once the problem has been encountered, the Licensed Internal
Code log on the client partition will contain a VL33005005
entry, and the Product Activity Log on the client partition will
contain two SRCB6005120 entries, one with word 3 = 0001 0004 and
word 4 = 0000 0042 and the other with word 3 = 0001 0005 and
word 4 = 0000 001D. The original virtual disk resource will
still appear on client partition displays but will be in a Not
Operational/Not Connected state.
CORRECTION FOR APAR MA45019 :
-----------------------------
The information used by the client adapter Licensed Internal
Code to uniquely identify each disk resource logically attached
to the adapter will be changed to include the block size of the
device.
CIRCUMVENTION FOR APAR MA45019 :
--------------------------------
Create the new Network Server Storage Space with a different
name; if it is necessary to reuse the same name as the original
NWSSTG you can follow these steps:
1. While the ORIGINAL virtual disk is in the Operational state
on the client, use Dynamic Partitioning on the HMC to delete the
client adapter from the client partition.
2. Vary off the NWSD on the server partition (VRYCFG comand)
3. Remove the NWSSTG link from the NWSD (RMVNWSSTGL command).
4. Delete the NWSSTG object and recreate it with the new sector
size (DLTNWSSTG/CRTNWSSTG commands)
5. Link the NWSSTG to the NWSD (ADDNWSSTGL command)
6. Vary on the NWSD (VRYCFG command)
7. Use Dynamic Partitioning on the HMC to recreate the client
adapter.
