APAR Error Description / Circumvention

For an object located several million blocks into a tape file a
majority of restore time is spent locating the object on tape.
The length of time to locate the object is reduced via use of
the POSITION parameter due to more blocks being skipped over and
fewer blocks read. However, due to IO restrictions for earlier
tape technologies, there exists a maximum value which can be
skipped per request. The more requests there are, the longer it
takes to locate the object.

CORRECTION FOR APAR MA44784 :

An enhancement will be made to increase the maximum number of
blocks that can be skipped per request.
