Problem
This technote provides information on how to do a silent install of IBM® Installation Manager, including any available updates, with an IBM Rational® Software Delivery Platform version 7.0 desktop product, such as Rational Application Developer, including any available interim fixes (iFixes).
Resolving The Problem
You can perform a silent install of Installation Manager (IM) and Rational Application Developer (RAD) 7.0 (including updates) by creating an IM response file, a RAD response file, and a batch file to execute the commands for the installation. Finally, you must run the batch file to initiate the silent install.
Note: If you reference this technote to perform a silent install of Rational Software Architect (RSA) you must modify the on-line RAD update repository links to the corresponding RSA update repository links.

Create an Installation Manager response file
- You can use the response file as described in the "Installing, updating, and scripting..." link above, or you can generate your own by following the instructions provided in the RAD 7.0 install.html file, available online at:

you can find this file under the RAD 7.0 install directory: <RAD70_install_dir>\IBM\SDP70\rad\documentation\en\install.html - The <repository> tag is referencing the IBM online repository for IM updates; you can change this to reference a local repository instead, for example, <repository location="file:/C:/repository/">
- The <preference> tag is set to direct IM not to search linked repositories during installation and updates. It corresponds to the checkbox in the Preferences screen in IM (from File > Preferences, Repositories).
Create a Rational Application Developer 7.0 response file
- You can use the response file as described in the "Installing, updating, and scripting..." link above, or you can generate your own by following the instructions provided in the RAD 7.0 install.html file, available online at:

it can be found under the RAD 7.0 install directory: <RAD70_install_dir>\IBM\SDP70\rad\documentation\en\install.html - The first <repository> tag is referencing the IBM online repository for RAD 7.0 updates; you can change this to reference a local repository instead, for example, <repository location="file:/C:/repository/">
- The second <repository> tag is referencing the RAD 7.0 Disk1 images folder; you need to modify this according to where the Disk1 images are located.
Note: When doing a silent install, an installation CD can only be used if it is a single CD/DVD. Multiple installation CDs cannot be used for silent installs, as they require having to manually switch the CDs.
- You now should have Installation Manager 1.0 and Rational Application Developer 7.0 installed on your machine, along with any available updates and interim fixes.
