Abstract
Download the latest CPLD Update Utility for System x and xSeries
Download Description
Flashing CPLD in wrong machine type could break system.
Note: After running the CPLD Update Utility, AC power must be removed from the system for 30 seconds, then reapplied for the new CPLD update to take affect.
New IBM xSeries firmware and device driver file naming convention
New firmware update file formats
Note: You now have two ways of downloading files with the *.sh extension. You can use either the IBM Download Director, or the HTTP protocol to download these files. Do NOT use FTP as this will only cause the file to open your browser.

Version 1.10, Build ID: HEUD22B, Revision 10
Problem(s) Fixed:
- Intermittent CPU IERR reported when AC power is cycled.
- Intermittent loss of PCI slot.
- Intermittent Reset (RSA: 1.5V power good fault; BMC: Reset by PCIX) events when PCIX adapters operate in mode 2 (266Mhz)
Enhancement:
- Removed internal pullups to improve power sequencing
Dependencies:
- After the update, the system operator must AC cycle power to the system. For multinode systems, each node must be individually updated in standalone mode. Refer to TIP H1988.
Note: Service personnel should reference RETAIN tip H186770
Version 1.08, Build ID: HEUD21A, Revision 8
Attention: This change is deemed critical for the following configurations with ServeRAID 8i:
- xSeries x260 (8865), x3800 (8865, 8866), x366 (8863), x3850 (8863, 8864), x460 (8872, 8874), and x3950 (8872, 8874, 8878, 8879)
Problem(s) fixed:
- Servers incorporating the ServeRAID-8i adapter may experience false hard disk drive failures, logical drive offline, kernel-panic or SCSI-hang leading to system failure.
Enhancement:
- Improved communication between hard disk drives and the 8i ServeRAID adapter.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies:
- Upgrade to HEUD21A requires update to BIOS 165B or higher for x260 (8865), x3800 (8865), x366 (8863), x3850 (8863), x460 (8872, 8874), and x3950 (8872, 8874).
OR
- Upgrade to HEUD21A requires update to BIOS 121A or higher for x3800 (8866), x3850 (8864), and x3950 (8878, 8879).
Version 1.07, HEUD20A
Problem(s) fixed: none.
Enhancement:
- Initial release for systems using latest Intel Xeon MP processors. This version is shipped on all 8864, 8866 and 8878/8879 systems.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.06, HEUD18A
Problem(s) fixed:
- Wake-On-Lan feature would not wake the system from sleep.
Enhancement: none.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.05, HEUD17A
Problem(s) fixed:
- CPLD version 1.05 is required with BIOS version 1.08 (ZUJT47B) to allow POST/BIOS to disable a potentially erroneous/always active interrupt signal from the memory cards.
Enhancement: none.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.04, HEUD16A
Problem(s) fixed:
- Fix false power faults seen while power cycling.
- Repaired problem where hard drive activity LED would not illuminate during hard drive activity
Enhancement: none.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.03, HEUD10A
Problem(s) fixed:
- Add support for the x260.
Enhancements:
- Enhance PCI slot reset logic.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.02, HEUD09A
Problem(s) fixed:
- Adds support for 4 and 8 node x460. Without version 1.02 you could experience random nodes not rebooting in synchronization with the primary, not all nodes powering on or off together, or nodes powering off when they should be rebooting. Any of these conditions could result in a machine check being logged in the system event log.
- In a multi-node scenario, if a remote node needs to shutdown immediately it can do so now without causing machine checks on all other nodes.
Enhancements: none.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.01, HEUD04A
Problem(s) fixed:
- Fixes IDE stress issues under Linux and Windows environment
Enhancements: none.
Limitations: none.
Dependencies: none.
Version 1.00, HEUD01A
- Initial release
