Removing the fan

To remove the fan:

  1. Remove the top cover:
    1. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.
    2. Press the cover-release button.
    3. Slide the cover back approximately one half inch.
    4. Lift the cover off of the server, and set it aside.
  2. Remove the air baffle:
    1. Grasp the air baffle. Then, lift it up out of the server and set it aside.
  3. Remove the fan from the server:
    1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. You might need to disengage the cables from cable retention clips or cable holder.
    2. Grasp the top of the fan with your index finger and thumb.
    3. Lift the fan out of the server, and set it aside.
